AGOG

About Me

Exciting, eager, curious, to be ~ ~Whatever meaning or qualification given to Agog, it is a unique group in the European jazz scene because of the expressive repertoire and the intensity of the performance. The trio started in September 2001 and since then they left their marks on the musical landscape. Both the audience and the press were very positive about their first cd ‘Shortcuts to Detours’ (TryTone 008). In July 2002 they won the Dutch Jazz Competition and from that time on they have been performing each year at home and abroad..
From the very beginning Agog presented itself as a pioneering and equal trio. Raw rock can be followed by whispering ballads without making a parody of genres. Agog is not a typical guitar trio but a mini orchestra, which uses the group sound and the unique chemistry between the musicians to its full potential.
Besides their work as a trio Agog also initiates projects with guests: - Their second album ‘Meltdown’ features the collaboration with the Zapp String Quartet. This cd, produced by the Dutch international radio-broadcasting corporation ‘De Wereldomroep’, was released in May 2004 on Jazz in Motion/Challenge Records. They toured extensively with this project between 2004 and 2007. - ‘Agog plays Radiohead’ was the latest initiative of the group. The compositions of this British pop group were the starting point. To adapt this repertoire into Agog’s realm the pieces were carefully reconstructed. The special guests for this project were Jasper Blom (saxophone and electronics) and Jozef Dumoulin (Rhodes and electronics). In 2006 they toured with this program in the Netherlands.
Currently Agog is working on a new cd with compositions from Frank Wingold and Mark Haanstra. The release is scheduled for the second half of 2008.
Press: Maartje den Breejen, Parool Nov. 2004: “... Dreamy soundscapes and steaming funk, it all sounds equaly fresh and lively...” Edo Dijksterhuis, NRC Handelsblad June 2005: “... Catchy compositions full of unexpected turns...” Maarten Schulp, Bassmagazine Okt 2004: “... A chance for listeners from any kind to expand their imagination a few kilometers with truly original music...” Jacob Haagsma, Leeuwarder Courant May 2004: “...Imaginative, clear and intens music..."
