Red Rock Studios is a bar and an art gallery, an escape from the mundanities of everyday life. There is good light, a fine selection of Scotch, and a pool table downstairs. I refer to myself as a SmartBar, which is loosely defined as a comfortable space frequented by everyone. While smart means intelligent, it can also mean brisk, spirited, bright and witty. Red Rock embodies these definitions of smart without trying to be any one interpretation of the word.People who have never entered the Sanctuary before often comment, "What is this thing?" When told that I am a SmartBar, they look around, sedately sip their Scotch, and murmur, "Why yes, this is a SMART BAR!" I've been compared to holes in the wall in the Upper West Side in New York, that special meeting place in Venice and a Beat hangout in San Francisco. I've never been to these places, being a somewhat immobile bar and all, but from what my patrons tell me, these are all comfortable places for creative people to gather and make wonderful, unusual plans for their surroundings. I have something to offer to everyone. Don't like booze? Here's an espresso! Coffee isn't your thing? There's a stash of tea by the espresso machine. What would a SmartBar be without Yerba Mate, served in a traditional goard with a bombilla?
A bar is nothing but a vacant space with bottles without people, and what makes me such a special place are the individuals who take part in making me a fluid, changing thing. I am a space where artists and cowboys share a round, where bicycles are parked in the bar without the raise of an eyebrow, where dogs are welcome as long as they promise to wash dishes if they run behind the bar. Never been here? Stop by and see me...I'm waiting to hear your stories.
I am located at 241 S. Sierra Street next to the wedding chapel. Red Rock is unlike any other bar in Reno: original, beautiful art, real people, honest drinks, and a real vintage, manual espresso machine!

I am the only bar in town with a vintage manual espresso machine AND Fernet Branca. Between the hours of 7 am and 12 noon we are a nonsmoking bar as requested by our morning patrons. Yes, and we have WIFI too!
