Originally from South Central Los Angeles, RicaSShay came to San Diego in 1991. Experiencing complete culture shock, RicaSShay dove head first into Hip-Hop, after gangs forced his family to leave L.A. He found a new home near the border and the legend was born...The San Diego Hip-Hop scene was almost non-existent, and when RicaSShay first started recording, there were only a handful of rappers from San Diego (Gangsta Ern R.I.P.. Prhyme Suspect, Legion of Doom, Partners-N-Rhyme, Green Eyes, & Aztec Tribe). RicaSShay became part of what is now the 2nd Generation of San Diego Hip-Hop. Being a latin artist also made him stand out, because being latino in rap music back then was unheard of. A true pioneer and revolutionary MC, he paid his dues in the undergound scene, defeating almost every MC in battle and/or commanding respect on stage. This attention brought him a few record deals with Warner Bros. and Pump Records, and alliances with local production companies. But real recognize real, and to RicaSShay, no one looked familiar! It has come to the year 2007 where RicaSShay is no longer giving his attention to others and is now focused on himself.Known for being a top notch lyricist and one of the best songwriters in the city, RicaSShay has created a legend of a man who, like KRS One, IS Hip-Hop. He has overcome the brutal ghettos of Southern California, gangs, drugs, death (he has been officially declared dead for 6 seconds) and poverty to become the man/MC/revoltuionary he is today. Finding peace in the teachings of Rastafari have helped to balance out the man & the myth. With help from his family (Proof of Life Entertainment), RicaSShay is set to reign!
