Do your announcement
Be a KICKRadio "JOCK" (DJ)
Because we have been having problems with our mail center here at Myspace we encourage you to communicate with us by writing to [email protected]
This note is to all our non-musician listener friends out there who like good music...
Right above you will see a little orange "voice recorder" that will allow you to record us a message using your own microphone and computer...Here is what we are hoping you will do:
Would you like to be heard on the radio all over the world?
We are looking for some station listeners who would like to record some station ID announcements for us that we can plug into future broadcasts...
We have provided you with a little recorder above and all you have to do is take your microphone on your computer and record your message using our little script here...If we like your announcement we will include it in a future boadcast and you will be a KICKRadio DJ!
We provide you with this little script and all you have to do is read and record it and we will be able to hear, review and hopefully use your message
That is all there is to it. it's sooooo easy... the script may be something like this...Please record it in both English and then again in your native language if you are not a native English speaker.
"hello, this is (your name) and I am from (your own or villae), (your country) and I love to listen to K - I - C - K Radio... Kickradio dot com..."
-----
Those of you that we select will also have the opportunity to do other scripts actually introducing the musicans that we play on Kickradio...
Its fun and its your opportunity to be heard -- you will be the envy of all your friends...
And this is it...this is all you need to do to be a "jock" (that's american slang for "DJ" or "Disk Jockey" -- a friendly name for a radio announcer in the 60's and 70's) at KICKRadio....

Music or Talk? Which do you prefer?
How do we know who the artist is that makes that music? What is the name of the song?
What comes first? The chicken or the egg?

There is a great debate going on today by independent music providers about podcasting and internet radio stations. How do you assure that the artists get credit for the songs that are played? In other words, how does the listener know who the artist is on any given song if "talk" or an announcement isn't included as part of the presentation?
Right now I feel Kickradio is on the cutting edge. We are are a proud member of the ArtistLaunch Radio Network which is a group of of songwriters, musicians, and radio stations which collectively acts as an online music promoter that distributes digital music.
The listener is fickle. They want what they want and if we don't have it then they simply just don't want us and they will move on to someone else to get what they want.
An IPod is an interesting device like a mini database computer. It is popular because the listener likes to collect things. In this case, music -- not talk. It is true that a lot of podcasting has to do with talk, the most popular file for an ipodder is music -- and now music videos is joining in.
I think it is going to take a lot of experimentation to come up with the right combination that satisfies everyone.
One of the big reasons that AM radio lost the battle of the airwaves with FM radios was talk.
The listener wanted "more music - less talk" which was precisely what FM radio used to help lure listeners away from AM radio. But, interestingly enough, the more popular shows still had talk in them (like Howard Stern) - but the problem was that the focus shifted from the actual musical talent in the songs and recordings to the announcer himself. The announcer himself became the "star" so to speak and the music took back seat as just one of the "props".
Broadcast radio controls "the database" and the listener's only option is to control the "dial". In internet radio podcasting the "listener" actually controls the database.
In Itunes the podcast is recieved and the savvy listener can take the time to "separate" the talk from the songs if the "announcements" are sent by separate files. Shows like the Artistlaunch hour where "segments" are recorded probably don't spend much time on an Ipod because each "segment file" is longer than a "song file". so the Artistlaunch Hour becomes simply an "information" file -- as opposed to an "entertainment" file.
One of the problems we have is "proper" pronunciation -- I hate to "slaughter" someone's name because it is mispronounced. But it is going to happen. Amber Ojeda, for example. I was going around saying "O-Gee-da" when it is actually "O-Hee-da", and this is just a simple one -- try Tsioris. Is the T silent? Is it TeeSorious? TeeSeeOhRis? I don't know -- but I better understand now why he uses HFN as his music name (Have Fun with Music). Does it do an artist justice if the announcer can't even pronounce the name right?
I have always suspected that the reason people like to listen to music has to do with first, background noise and second as a mood stimulator. If you can accomplish both then you have a winner depending on what the listener is wanting the input for.
Myspace.com is eye opening for me -- when you encounter a listener's page that has music embedded in it it always starts off with music -- not talk. the page itself has material to read on it so talk actually interferes and competes with the senses if you are trying to read the page.
I feel that there is an obligation on the part of the stations to try their best to identify the music for the artist's sake and even the listener's sake. The question is how to do it and do it right? In the end the listener, the market, will decide. That is why, I suspect, the big guys are buying each other out and stockpiling "inventories" of millions of files. music has morphed into database collections. the listener likes to collect music (records, tapes, cds) anyway and this (digital music) is just the next generation of being able to collect, store and use.
A fan used to say, "Oh I have all your records". Now they are more likely to say. "I have you on my Ipod".Please take our poll about this discussion which is shown to your right on this page... Thank you...
