One of downtown NYC’s brightest stars for the last 2 decades, DJ Tennessee continues to turn it out for the masses to shake their asses well into the 21st century and beyond. Arriving in Manhattan in 1987 , he found his first gigs as a singing waiter in Haoui Montaug’s No Entiendes Cabaret and helped bring Karaoke machines to maintstream America. His first DJ gigs were at the Legendary Nightclubs of yore such as The Pyramid, The World, Red Zone , Mars, Tunnel & Save The Robots. In 1991, he began working for Infamous Party Monster Michael Alig @ The Limelight and was the Chapel Shampoo! Room Saturday Night DJ for 4 years running. Working at the Pyramid club, Tennessee met and befriended the entire gamut of the East Village Performing Arts Scene of the late 80’s and soon afterwards began to collaborate with many of them, creating shows that complimented his unique DJ style. As a performer, Tennessee first saw international exposure as a dancing genie in the music video of fellow Pyramid Almuni - Deee-Lite’s 1990 global dance anthem "Groove Is In The Heart". Several collaborations with Deee-Lite members include a 1995 dance remix of jazz band Giant Steps Repercussions’ "Promise Me Nothing" with Supa DJ Dmitry ( Tenn’s first top 10 Billboard Dance Hit) and a 1996 solo tour doing onstage trippy visuals and camera work for frontwoman Lady Miss Kier at Perry Ferrell’s Enit Festival.In 1995, frustrated at the lack of attention/mainstream exposure given to dance and house music artists on MTV, BET & VH-1, Tennessee started his own cable access show , Tennavision, which , today now begining its 10th season, still maintains a loyal following of NY viewers as well as fans all over the globe now that it is streamed on the web via The Manhattan Neighborhood Network website. (Monday Nite, Ch 56 12:30 am (est) www.mnn.org) With his quick wit, comedic writing , voiceover skills, spot on impersonations & endless musical library, he has written material for RuPaul’s morning radio show on 103.5 WKTU, and worked as a production assistant for 8 of downtown Drag Diva Lady Bunnys Annual Labor Day Wigstock Festivals, much of which can be seen in Wigstock :The Movie. After touring the states and Canada as a DJ throughout the 90’s, Tennessee landed in Europe in 2001 to wow club crowds with his "past present future," NYC house sound in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Bordeaux and Marbella Spain where he kept a 6 month residency at The Costa del Sol hotspot Faces. In 2003, Tennessee provided the voices of 2 characters in the over the top, ultra sex and violence Japanimation Cartoon Series "Guren: Blood Shadow" something he loves to do and hopes to land more cartoon voice over work in the future, being very inspired by Looney Tunes master voice artist Mel Blanc. Today in 2008 Tennessee has found a new home in uptown Manhattans Black Mecca, Harlem , where he first started out upon his arrival to NYC almost 20 yrs ago & managed to keep a 2 year Saturday nite DJ Residency @ the uptown Washington Heights new hotspot NO PARKING. You can see him in the upcoming film "The Boys & Girls Guide To Getting Down" & hear his new voiceovers in "StarrBooty" starring RuPaul coming summer ’07.Tennessee to this day says he feels SO lucky to count himself amongst the living after coming thru unscathed and surviving the HIV holocaust of the 80’s/early 90’s that took the lives of so many people dear to him, which to this day, fuels his passion for HIV / AIDS fund raising / education & prevention. He feels his accomplishments are phenomenal for a "Chattanooga Field Hand with a 10th grade education" and encourages everyone young and old to follow their dreams and never give up no matter what anyone says.
