JESS MCAVOY- INTO THE DARK
Four and a half stars "..forget the rest, Jess McAvoy is one of the best."-Clem
Bastow, The Age
"An album to treasure."- Nick Snelling, Beat Magazine.
10 years in the Australian independent music industry and a history of flirting with musicians from a wide range of genres, Jess McAvoy tends to describe her music as being "Good Music". Often placed in the urban folk genre, Jess’ performance style is generally solo armed with an acoustic guitar. Recently performing more often with a drummer and bassist, Her passion and skill are highly evident in every performance. Jess’ stage presence is disarmingly honest, and incredibly personable. With 7 self produced recordings under her belt, Jess teamed up with Marty Brown (Clare bowditch and the feeding set) to produce her highly anticipated follow up album titled "Into the Dark" out now in all good record stores.
Accolades for this release have included "Album of the Week" in Melbourne’s BEAT magazine, and Four and a half stars in The Age Entertainment Guide. Further praise has come from The Sydney Morning Herald’s Bernard Zuel in the form of Four Stars.
Jess is currently writing for her follow up album, due for release mid 2008
NEW REVIEW
Dressed simply in black singlet, jeans, and country boots, Jess McAvoy is the real deal, and her music mirrors this down-to-earth, yet attention-grabbing image perfectly. Her honest lyrics, soulful voice and country-twanged guitar combine to produce a set that roams from laid-back songs like ‘Pebbles and Mountains’ through to more powerful ones like ‘How The Hell’, proving just how strong her voice can be. McAvoy may not reinventing any wheels, but she’s probably okay with that.?
