Layout Pimper.comWordSmith Jones is a 21-year-old poet who has been writing since the age of fifteen. Once known as Love Jones, WordSmith has written a collection of poems that teach and spread the word of Afrikan history and empowerment. He has been compared to such great lyricists as Saul Williams, Mos Def, Nas, Immortal Technique, and Dead Prez. He has also received commendation from the one and only Abiodun Oyewole of The Last Poets. More than just a writer, Word is also a photographer, graphic designer, and performer. He has performed in such venues as the Nuyorican Poets Café, The African Poetry Theater, and various universities. He is also a three-time NYC College of Technology Poetry Slam Winner and earned a winning title at The Secret Open Mic in March 2008. However, his success and compliments do not come without some criticism. There are some that do not approve of his message and would encourage less controversial writings. So why does WordSmith do it? Word writes and performs because he strongly believes that the people need it. Ignorance within the BLACK community is at an all-time high and not enough people of Afrikaan descent know about Afrikaa’s glorious history. But thanks to activists and poets like WordSmith and many others, Black Afrikaan consciousness is steadily on the rise. "One person at a time, we can generate movement within the minds of the people." This is what he strives to do with his poetry and The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (www.mxgm.org). WordSmith Jones has only one goal, to get people to see that there is only one way to achieve social, economic, spiritual, and political change…..REVOLUTION by any means necessary.
