Kleft - An Introduction to our Obstruction
I'm pretty sure Kleft started as a joke. In the Autumn of 2002, I was asked to “join a band†by the guys who were sitting beside me in school. I gladly accepted the offer because I had no other friends and it seemed like these guys were in the same position as me. We were the kids without a clique, we weren’t into sports, we didn’t drink and we certainly weren’t very popular with the ladies. When you’re 15, lonely and talentless, there is only one cure…rock and roll.

Our band gave us something to talk about, something to do outside of school, Kleft was our excuse to talk to each other. We’d have band meetings during break time at school and spend our free time listening to nirvana and writing songs. When you think of it, most songs are written about either or both of the following two things; love and drugs. We had no experiences of either and so our songs usually focused on themes of racism, animal cruelty or rape. ( We hadn‘t experienced any of these either but they seemed far more interesting than the former ideas.) After the first year we had maybe 10 songs written but only two practice sessions. The problem was that creative element of the band; Ray and I, couldn’t really play any instruments.
To be honest, I’m having a hard time putting my finger on the reason for Kleft’s transformation from a very bad garage band to the group of delinquents we became. I remember at the beginning of 2004 we had a few failed practice sessions that ended up with us downloading videos of women giving birth instead of playing songs. Perhaps it was after this that we realised that the normal route to rock and roll success was not for us. It seems we may have subconsciously decided to follow a different (yet equally long) route to the top. What followed was over two years of vandalism, arson, graffiti, , noise pollution (not a reference to the music), dead animal promotion, destruction and chaos. Naturally enough we carefully documented every crime committed and we ending up getting arrested a couple of times for our art.
Kleft - The House of Kleft

During this second era of Kleft I began toying with electronic music, although my first attempts are not terribly impressive, I am very proud of the newer songs. These song’s consist of lyrics, stories, ideas and samples from the golden era of Kleft. Sometime during the summer of 2008, 50 copies of “the best of Kleft†will be printed to c.d. While Kleft is not breaking up as such, the album will be released posthumously as the era to which the songs refer, is over. To procure smooth listenage of the album, I have gone back over the old songs and remastered them to bring them up to the standard of the newer material. These songs are an ode to the heyday of Kleft, they contain and display what we wanted to be, what we were and what will always be a part of us.
