The film industry found me in San Antonio Texas where i was studying Architecture in my 3rd year undergrad after having already spent 3 years at North Texas State University studying Fine Art. The film was "Johnny Be Good", and the production designer was Greg Fonseca who scouted the hallowed halls of the Architecture School searching for part-time Set Designers. It was that day that my desiny changed. I grew up in a house with a father who is an Architect/ Educator, and a mother who is a brilliant woman with many talents in Textiles, raising her kids (me and my younger brother), and being funny and gregarious almost always in the face of everything. My parents have been married for over 50 years. Growing up as a step-child of The American Institute of Architects, my role as an Art Director in Film and TV is a natural evolution.
One of my most passionate concerns regarding The Film Industry is to help find ways of Recycling Set Materials , thus keeping millions of tons of building materials out of the Landfill every year.
If anyone has thoughts, ideas, or resources,...please share. I will begin a blog with lists and links to valuable information....(i.e. carpet companies who will recycle their carpet, lumber recyclers and salvage places, alternatives to the use of Luan (which is a rain-forest material),...etc.
