About Me

During the past decade, the “Screwed Up” movement has reinvented the rap scene of Houston, Texas. The industry recognizes the elevated level of respect poured on H-Town lyricists by millions of people worldwide. The nation now awaits an alternative sound to surface out of “The City of Codeine.” The search for this alternative can now come to a halt, a sensation has arrived and the equilibrium has shifted. This sensation coined as Houston’s next hip-hop phenom is Heavy Chevy.

Heavy Chevy is a product of the Southwest side of Houston, Texas. At the early age of 12, Chevy began rapping under the influence of Rakim, Biggie, and 2Pac. During school hours Chevy could be found rapping at the lunch tables and aiming for perfection with each performance. However, the glamour of the streets beckoned him at every corner and running with the wrong crowd would keep Chevy in trouble throughout his life. Trouble, lead Chevy to attend 8 high schools and be expelled from 5, before dropping out. Yet, his passion for music kept him focused and resulted in Chevy emerging as a popular MC on the Houston music scene. He recorded weekly mixtapes at a local record store and was the voice behind legendary radio freestyles, aired on 97.9 The Box’s “Roll Call”. At the age of 18, Chevy packed his bags and moved to California to further his dreams. While living in San Diego County, Chevy remained active in the Houston rap scene by continuing to collaborate on songs with artists such as Slim Thug and Lil Troy. At the same time, Chevy began to make a name for himself in Southern California and embarked on a west coast tour with Knocturnal and Nate Dogg. Although, California proved to be a substantial opportunity for Chevy and his career, turbulence in his lifestyle led him to the brink of trouble. Several months later Chevy found himself engaged in allegations of criminal activity, forcing him to relocate to Northern California. In November 2004 Tooty Marriz, President of Actuate Records, contacted Chevy and began preliminary negotiations for a recording contract with the label. The streets readily embraced Chevy upon on his return to Houston.Chevy’s return resulted in the creation of a movement known to the public as The Union. Through the backing of Actuate Records, Heavy Chevy and The Union released a series of mixtapes that took Houston by storm, selling over 40,000 copies in a 6-month time span. Through an extended network, the mixtapes have circulated throughout the Southern and Midwest regions. Due to Chevy’s increasing popularity, aggressive street music and lifestyle, an FBI investigation and interrogation for the prostitution of women commenced in June 2006. The Feds concluded that Chevy wasn’t affiliated with prostitution related activity and he was cleared of all charges.Chevy currently represents the street life of Houston that Scarface and The Geto Boys introduced during the late ‘80s. He illustrates a game saturated with hustlers, big money, heavy weight, luxury cars, and beautiful women. The masses have drifted to his witty punch lines, solid metaphors, and brash persona which resulted in an increase and extension of his fan base. Chevy has showcased his lyrical attributes in venues with many established artists, and is slated to perform alongside acts ranging from Chamillionaire to Rick Ross. In the midst of in-store promotions and performances throughout the south, Chevy continues to record music and has entered in negotiations with several major labels, via Actuate Records, for the release of his debut album. It is evident that the game will change once Heavy Chevy infiltrates the scene. His universal appeal proves that he will stand the test of time and possess a longevity that’s seldom seen in the music industry. Chevy is aware that now is his time, “I stood back and waited, then dropped six mixtapes strictly for the streets. While the country was listening to big the names from Houston, Houston was listening to me.” You can listen now or you can listen later, however when it’s all said and done the whole world will be listening to Heavy Chevy.
