Sarcasm, reducing uncertainty, and impression formations. Generally, one should not generalize... But generally I make things happen, don't like to answer my phone, and enjoy catering to you. I often partake in Rugged and Haggard adventures ... road tripping ... exploring ... absorbing ... taking too many photos of everything and everyone... I've been a lot of places, seen a lot of faces, broken a few vases. But hey, "What ever floats your boat, or finds your lost remote"... I'm an ENTJ, sometimes an ENFJ, for those familiar with thee ol' myers-briggs.. I collect, copy, and flaunt others' genius in order to be as pretentious as possible: "All men should strive to learn before they die what they are running from, and to, and why."- James Thurber ...... Heraclitus- "Do not listen to me; listen to the logos. It is wise to believe all things are truly one." ...... "I contradict myself in order to not conform to my own taste" -Duchamp ...... esto es también sabio: Arundhati Roy- "To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify the complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget." ....... "Somebody someday will have to wind up my limp watches so they can tell the time of absolute memory; the only true and prophetic time" -Dali- ............. "...life is essentially playful. Of course, it can play a bit rough at times. Maybe life is like a baby gorilla. It doesn't know its own strength...sometimes one gets the idea that life thinks it's still living in Paris in the thirties..." -Tom Robbins-
The elusive resident in apartment number 5 .... Someone who can explain why Cheerio burps smell so badly... Jesco White.... Timothy Treadwell.... Tom Waits.... An owner of a Real Doll.... Bioluminescent marine life... more Nevada City natives (there HAS to be something in the water...) and someone to help me become fluent in French right quick. Mountain folk, martyrs, pop-culture idols and puppets from cultures around the world...poets, madmen, artists, monks, hermits, composers, yogis, shamans, eccentrics, magicians, anarchists, witches, and rare bizzare subculturites such as the Gnostics and the Sierra Clock......cult leaders, the people who follow them, and cannibals....."For by telling you the story of my life, I do not wish to expose myself to disgrace before these lovers of idleness, who know everything anyway, but am seeking a sensitive and educated man." - taken from Crime and Punishment
I am currently obsessed with Balkan and Eastern European Gypsy music, anything inspired by it, and country/roots music on vinyl ... Nothing lubricates catharsis like music can and does ... it should not be pigeon-holed to specific genres because such profiling, presumptions and generalizations can lead to inhibiting biases... it can be well written and/or performed: thus deemed 'interesting' or 'stimulating'... therefore it can be most excellent, but, unfortunately, can be embarrassing or painfully terrible as well... in which case, damn it to the fifth terrace of purgatorio or straight to the ninth circle...or just ignore it ... trust that I have experienced plenty of it and thoroughly enjoy it daily... If one's musical preference could be clinically classified bipolar, I'd be prescribed an unlimited supply of anticonvulsants and lithium.... but I wouldn't take them. My favorite band is Tool; you should be prepared for that because, respectfully, I don't care how you feel about it. The music video, in its rarest form, is the most powerful and satisfying artistic medium.
Lately I've been drawn to eye candy that requires as little of my attention span as possible, innovative cinematography, weird snuff films, complete bullshit, etc. Assume that I enjoy all highly stylized directors and writers... anything that isn't too predictable or bores me into a catatonic state... Other stylistic preferences include: all B-movie absolute nonsense, psychedelic/ surrealistic films from the 60's and 70's such as; The Holy Mountain, Black Moon, and all animated goodness... Fellinian imagery, Italian film in general: the neorealist movement, Antonioni, spaghetti westerns/horse operas, HORROR (see Bava and Argento).... themes of existential mystery, tragic resolutions,(BRUCE CAMPBELL), low-budget, "American Surrealism" and realism, clever use of mise-en-scene, revisionist genres, exploitation film and grindhouse, macabre humor, Gothic stories, absurd predicaments, mob movies, puppets and muppets, satire, Film Noir,..etc etc... and it feels good to cry my eyes out. I could never get burnt out on LOTR. All the classics from my youth like any and all Don Bluth and Jim Henson films, Drop Dead Fred, Time Bandits, The Last Unicorn, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles circa 1990, Return to Oz, Andersen Douwa-Ningyo Hime (movie), etc. etc. etc. Old Kung Fu Bruce Lee movies and any new, Chinese visual masterpieces. Documentaries, raw footage, compilations, etc ... Sci-Fi/Fantasy i.e. the Abyss, DUNE, the James T. Kirk Star Trek movies, Star Wars (preferably those which were not directed by George Lucas) because I truly am, born and raised,a nerd.
... is most commonly viewed via DVD since I don't have Cable: South Park, Six Feet Under, and the X-Files (I don't even want to qualify this as a show: it's a lifestyle)... I enjoy the national geographic/blue planet, discovery and history channels, and sometimes adult swim.... the Daily Show because it's very refreshing... I'm drawn to sarcastic, clever shows that make fun of idiocracies because, "There are no jokes. Truth is the funniest joke of all" ... I miss Fraggle Rock, PeeWee, TinTin (NOT the canine cop),... AND I love old-ish nickelodeon shows like Pete and Pete. A little late night, soft-core porn never hurt anyone either. I'm semi-addicted to LOST, and crave anything that is of the 90's ... I'm feeling a bit nostalgic ... I am a zombie.
"We should read to give our souls a chance to luxuriate." -Henry Miller. I am always open to any suggestions. This list is unrelenting boasting my favorite authors/books; competing are as many "must reads" that I've yet to experience. I discovered McSweeney's a while back and I still need a subscription... "The World's Religions" by Huston Smith was a catalyst for spiritual evolution... Hunter S. Thompson. Tom Robbins. Carl Jung. Tolkien. Sartre v Nietzsche... I like philosophies. comics. the dictionary. encyclopedias. biographies. maps. novellas. fact. fiction. conspiracy theory indulgence. "How To" books. tragedy. fantasy. College tells me I like "Studying the facticity within phenomenology, epistemology, and pluralism as applied to a wide range of topics," I can appreciate raw and ingenious poets, especially Ginsberg, Bukowski and Dr. Suess....

As for my inspiration, my role models: Marilyn Frost-Zafuto [R.I.P.] and My Grandparents. "We must be the change we wish to see in this world" -Ghandi. BE YOUR OWN HERO "Be Your Own Master! Be Your Own Jesus! Be Your Own Flying Saucer! Rescue Yourself. Be Your Own Valentine! Free the Heart!"
