About Me


Following piano and violin studies, Attilio Terlizzi eiceved his percussion diploma summa cum laude at the « Niccoló Piccinni » Conservatory in Bari, under the direction of Luigi Morleo.
He continued his studies at the Lyon National Conservatory under the apprenticeship of Jean-Luc Rimey-Meille and at the Geneva Superior Conservatory with Jean Geoffroy, William Blank and Yves Brustaux.
All during his studies, he has improved his work on percussion and marimba by attending and participating in masterclasses led by M. Rosen (Oberlyn Conservatory, USA), M. Quinn (Boston Symphony), L.H. Stevens (London Accademy) and N.J. Zivkovic (international soloist).
He has performed masterclasses and concerts in Italy, France, Greece, Germany, Switzerland and the USA.
Being a laureate for international competitions and receiving the absolute first prize for the 1st European Music Competition – Atri -, he has also exhibited his talents in several national and international festivals (see "Aosta Classica", "Festival Berlioz", "La Villette Paris ", "Amphi Comptoir -Opéra de Lyon-", "Forum international de composition–Bari-", " Festival Boulez", "Carnavalcade-Paris", "Festival Manca", "Jazz à Vienne", "Jazz à Beaune", "Jazz à Vaison la Romaine", "Jazz à Couches", "Un Doua de jazz", "La fiesta à Payerne", "Onyx Jazz Festival", "Talos Festival", "Jazz Parade", "VaulxJazz ", "Fort en Jazz "). During the 5th edition of the Suivez le Jazz competition (Lyon, 2005), he received, alongside the Emeuroides quartet, the audience’s prize for best young jazz talent.
Renowned composers have also dedicated him works for percussion, on which his first album was based: “Oltrea la linea di fuoco”, concerto by Luigi Morleo for marimba and strings orchestra ; “Differentes Activites”, concerto by J-L Rimey-Meille for multipercussion and strings ; “lames et Soufflet” written by Yves Vernes for marimba and accordion.
He has also collaborated with many important orchestras: Ensemble de Basse Normandie, Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain, Chorale Franco-Allemande de Lyon, the Orchestre Festival Philharmonique, the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie, the Orchestre du Théatre Petruzzelli, La Banda de Ruvo di Puglia, the Orchestre de chambre Tommaso Traetta, la Dolmen Orchestra and l’Orchestra Sinfonica Pugliese. In 2002, he participated in a project throughout which he collaborated with the Piccola Orchestra Avion Travel.
His qualities as a project creator and musical director have led him to the creation of several albums: “Warhol percussions Quartet”, “Tribute Trio”, “X-Orchestra”, “The Gate -Alexandre Thollon quintet, Lyon Symphonietta – Différentes Activités”, as well as the creation and organisation of the “Beat Onto Jazz Festival”, an event which has now attained international renown.
Following experiences in the musical therapy domain led in a mental hygiene center, he created a methodology aiming for the integration of music in the treatment of psychiatric diseases, notable through the construction and playing of percussion instruments.
Being also a jazz drummer, he has collaborated with many musicians including but not limited to : J.L. Ponty, N. Pisani, P. Minafra, V. Guarini, R. Ottaviano, F. Bosso, P. Mazzarano, G. Gaslini, F. Bertelli, M. Siniscalco, D. Scannapieco, M. Stanchev, S. Bonniau, O. Hilbrunner, E. Cacace, F. Boltro, A. Thollon, R. Giuliani, Y. Goloubev, G. Renzi, M. Magnoni, M. Rolli et K. Fornarelli, etc.
He is currently working on the creation and production of the new Concerto for Percussion and Concert Band which Emmanuel Sejourné has dedicated to him alongside the INSA (Lyon Ingeneering School) Concert Band.
He currently teaches at the Lyon and Mâcon Conservatories.
