The purpose and heart of singer/songwriter Mike Mayes is much deeper than bright lights and a stage set before thousands. Originally from Houston, TX, this young artist combines Christian lyrics with hip-hop, R&B and an even sometimes rock and alternative flair to reach the generational ear of today. Mike's musical gifts were proven early on, while yet-still inside his mother’s womb as he would kick and move in coordination with any operating stereo she was near. Throughout grade school he participated in choir and musical theatre, while this continued during his Junior High and High school years. Mike grew up singing in the youth choir at his home church and at the age of 12 became a member of an annual youth convention. During the course of this convention Mike gave his life over to a faith in Jesus Christ. He was soon selected along with 11 other youth to sing on the front line of the convention choir and it was with this group of youth that he experienced his first recording opportunity. The convention itself offered young artists such as Mike a chance to showcase their gifts during nightly rallies, and this prepared him for all that was and still is to come. Seeing the artist Mike Mayes in concert is much different from the soft spoken, easy to smile guy that he is while offstage. During a concert you can expect to see a very animated and Tenacious Mike, bobbing from one end of the stage to the other, while holding the audience in the palms of his hands. While it has been said that - "The boy can give a show", Mike simply refers to it as "utilizing what one has been taught to get God's message to the people." Mike studied Drama and Theatre arts while in both High School and college and it's to this training that he credits the Dramatic intros and various additions to his onstage set. Currently Mike is serving in the Brick House Young adult ministry at his church in Dallas,TX as well as a youth department volunteer. Mike's musical influences vary as so many other artists of today, but a noted few are - Yolanda Adams, John P.Kee, The Southeast Inspirational Choir, Kim Burrell, Deitrick Haddon, Kirk Franklin, Michael Jackson, and Jackie Wilson. When asked how he views himself as an artist and where he views himself in the future to come Mike stated - "I must admit that the time and dedication that goes into pursuing a music career is sometimes strenuous. I have realized a thing however, and it's that God chooses us to do work that He knows through "Him" we are more than capable of doing. So you can't help but to love what you do because you've already been anointed to do it. I have a vision to take this music ministry all over the world someday. You see God has entrusted me with His word so that I may spread it and I will succeed in doing whatever it takes to accomplish that.
