representatives in hopes of a major record deal.
So, you're "called" to the music ministry?? What to know before even contacting a record company
1. Understand that your ministry does not begin with a record deal.
Whether or not you're ever signed to a label, produce tracks for a hit album or write the next classic; if sharing the Gospel through song is what you're called to do-do it!! The greatest artists out there had been doing their thing long before they ever signed on the dotted line. Labels, are looking for artists who are already working, trying to further develop their careers. It's the artists who have both a passion for ministry and a unique gift that catches our attention.
2. Understand that there are different platforms that GOD places us on to share our gifts.
We all have a place in the body of Christ. Ask God to show you exactly what place He desires for you to take. Remember each part is important to the whole body, as we're told in 1 Corinthians 12.
3. Be Excellent.
Constantly seek to become better at what you do. When possible, take advantage of opportunities that will help you become better at what you do. Take lessons, collaborate with others, sit in on sessions, intern. If available, these are all things that can help you further develop your gift.
4. Become planted in a local church.
As an artist (or anyone for that matter), it is imperative to be in relationship with a local church body. Not only does this provide some accountability, you're covered in corporate prayer. The more successful you become, the harder it is to stay connected--but being under spiritual authority and guidance is an essential part of being an effective minister of the Gospel.
