Abythos was formed in January of 2005 in Austin, Tx. The band is comprised of Mortryne on vocals, Cognatis on bass, the lordly Nagrath on drums and Koth on guitars. The music of the band strives to achieve a dynamic, original blend of the neo-classical structures and sensibilities of black metal, the brutal technicality of death metal and the ambient, depressive qualities of doom metal, the occasional nod to guitar virtuosity is allowed to surface as well as intense vocal layerings which include harmonized operatic layerings of tonal vocal styles as well as the more extreme vocal techniques of death and black metal. The name Abythos is based upon a greek word, "bythos", which means the extreme depths of the ocean in that language and can also call into mind depths of the soul and or psyche. While Abythos includes in the artistic rendering of the band logo a stylized, upside down cross, the band as a whole does not wish to promote any religious message as far as christianity is concerned to include satanism. Occult topics, Mythological explorations given a modern relevancy, and personal experiences and reflections make up the lyrical content of the band. Abythos is an American metal band which strives to capture a world wide appeal.
