About Me
When greatness enters the world, it can come in many different forms. Some of these reflections of greatness come in the likes of creative songwriters, amazing dancers, or even stellar singers. But what happens if all these great things merge and form one amazing entity? You would definitely end up with an artist like none other. At this moment in time, DC is that form of greatness. With the ability to capture an audience with the stage presence of Michael Jackson, yet soothe the soul with the emotional vocals of Donny Hathaway, DC can only be described as a Powerhouse.
Born Ricardo Corriea De Lima, in Recife, Brazil, DC started his journey through a cold, lonely world that would not always be fair. His mother, a young school girl at the age of 14 knew that she would not be able to care for her son. Living in an impoverished country, along with the lack of a father who abandoned the family proved to be a challenge to extreme for her to handle alone. Knowing she wanted so much more for her first born, his mother made the ultimate sacrifice to give him up for adoption. The Chaneys, an American couple would be the god sent to help DC begin a new life and a new chance to become something wonderful. Nurtured in his new family environment, DC began to explore his talents in grade school.
Once one of DC’s music teachers saw the potential of this energetic star to be, she made him try out for his school’s musicals and plays. After gaining a plethora of leading roles during his time in junior high school, DC was offered a four year scholarship to the esteemed Archbishop Spalding High School in Maryland. Through out his years there, he went on to star in musicals such as ‘Bye Bye Birdieâ€, “Music Man†and “Joseph and the Techno-colored Coatâ€. With each performance, it became crystal clear that this young child was destined for stardom. With his life goals in view, DC never turned back and began to push forward with his dream of performing.
Under the guided tutelage and watchful eyes of his arts teachers, DC set his sites on moving forward towards higher learning. This platform of education was none other than the acclaimed and world renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. After numerous auditions, vocal scales and interviews, DC was accepted to the school on a four year scholarship. While in college, he studied and played classical piano and trained vocally daily. Such an amazing accomplishment had DC on the top of the world. But just as the laws of gravity state, what goes up must come down. His dreams would soon be deferred and shattered.
During his freshman year of college, DC was diagnosed with nasal polyps, which began to take its toll on his ability to speak and sing. After weeks of medication and checkups, DC's gift of voice silently slipped away. Suddenly there was no voice, no speech, and no song to be sung. Depressed and angered, he left Berklee never to return. After a ten month period of having no voice, DC miraculously regained his speaking ability. He then began speech therapy and vocal training to help strengthen his voice. Suddenly, his voice was back and stronger than ever. With the return of his melodic voice,
DC set out to follow his true dream, to become a recording artist. DC began to write, arrange and record his first studio project. During this time, he began to gain attention from local radio and promoters. This would soon lead him to be featured on numerous shows and tours such as “Scream fest†featuring Bow Wow, Ne-Yo and Dj Unk. He also was invited to perform as a guest on the “TGT†tour featuring R&B stars Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank. DC also continued to give back to his fans by doing national high school tours as well as performances for The Cancer Foundation and Adoption organizations for foster children. The list of artist he has opened for goes on and on. From Lil' Mama to Omarion, John Legend to Yung Berg, DC continued to prove he was a star.
Music industry insiders began to take notice and began to inquire about this new phenom. DC chose none other than “Blue†Williams, manager of OutKast, Nick Cannon and Aaron Carter to represent him as well. Under Williams' experienced guidance, DC would go on to record hit singles such as “Shake that Thang†featuring New York rapper Cuban Link and “Runnin’ out of time†featuring Atlanta newcomer Jody Breeze. DC knew the recording industry could be a scary place for dreams to unfold, so he formed his own label, Ricardo Lee Entertainment. With his own imprint in place, DC released his first studio album in 2008, "Google me". Combined with soulful lyrics, and hit record production,†Google me" began to raise the stock of this young entertainer to the top.
Though things seemed to have turned around for DC, life would present him with yet another challenge. On Feb. 8th, shortly after his CD release party, DC was involved in a near fatal car accident. Leaving a meeting, he lost control of his vehicle and slammed engine first into a highway wall. Still conscience, he pulled himself out of his crushed, compacted driver’s seat. Shocked, disoriented and looking for help, he noticed a car speeding towards him. Within a split second DC’s car was hit from behind, only feet away from him. Once the paramedics arrived, they notified DC that his hip had been broken and his leg was fractured. He was then immediately flown Medevac to The University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. After hours of immediate operations, DC remained unconscious for 48 hours. Sometime during the next day, he was able to open his eyes and began to make limited movement with his body.
Now out of the hospital and rapidly healing, DC is focused more than ever. Through every road block, he becomes stronger each day. The challenge now begins for him to recover and proceed with his recording career. DC currently has been offered recording deals with Universal Music Group, Def Jam, Jive Records and a host of other major labels. With every note he sings, and every word he writes, and every dance step he will take, his dream becomes more real every moment. Without struggle, there is no progress, and without trial, greatness can't be forged. Though DC is known as “The Lover boyâ€, he is definitely a survivor that will soon take the music industry by storm.
