About Me
Standing behind the decks and rockin’ a crowd is not a new feeling for Rick. Born and raised in Miami, he began to DJ in 1987, while he was still in high school. His stepbrother, a DJ from New Jersey, introduced him to his first pair of 1200’s. Back then it was Freestyle, Hip-House and Miami Bass that was coming from the speakers.
In the late nineties, Rick was introduced to the explosion of the EDM scene and he never looked back. In 1997, he relocated to Atlanta and set his sites on making a name for himself within the EDM scene. Shortly thereafter, he joined forces with Starchildren, who had a Friday night residency at the now legendary Sol nightclub. He began to make regular appearances at their events. These events coupled with some hard work networking, helped him generate a fan base in Atlanta and the word slowly started to spread outside the city.
Within a few years, Rick had played for practically every prominent promoter in the Atlanta area and throughout the entire Southeast, Northeast, Mid-west and as far west as Houston, Texas. Playing alongside some of the biggest names in the industry. Live acts such as The Chemical Brothers, BT, Uberzone, Spacemen, Cirrus and Trip Theory. DJ’s Icey, Kelly Reverb, Rick West, Tony Faline, Huda Hudia, Rob-e, John Kelley, Simply Jeff, Sandra Collins, Scott Hardkiss, George Acosta, Aphrodite, Mickey Finn, Phantom 45, Danny the Wildchild, AK 1200, Adam X, Frankie Bones, Heather Heart, Ritchie Hawtin, T-1000, J-Luv, Tommie Sunshine, Dean Coleman, Halo, Samm-e, Trevor Lamont, Ulises, Hipp-e, The Stickmen, DJ Craze, Swamp, and even De La Soul.
In 1999, a new friendship and common interests led Rick to try a project with Chris Lucid; and the RC Project was established. Shortly thereafter, they held a residency at The Playhouse @ The Masquerade. The duo had an infectious sound which rocked dance floors throughout the east coast and always sent a message of “y’all better get up and danceâ€! The interesting concept behind their tag-team sets was the fact that each of them would select records from their bag for the other to play.
After taking a small hiatus, he now returns and has recently joined forces with longtime friend, Danny Waddell and his counterpart in Orlando, B-Random. Welcome the “Speaker Pimp:Collectiveâ€. Always remembering that their were others that helped him along his way, while making a name for himself in the scene, Rick has taken newcomers, VJ Patel, Mike Losapio and Tony Parker under his wing, to bring you the Atlanta chapter of the SP:C. With a stronger passion for the music and DJ’ing as well, he now looks to once again become a regular name at events throughout the entire U.S.
