I've always said to my parents that I was going to be a singer but they just laughed it off as I was one of the quietest in school, at the time!!!!
But about a year and a half ago, I started to sing at charity events, the fundraising going towards the special olympics or a local community group.
My parents have since taken me seriously and offered to pay for me to go to a recording studio. I did my first demo about a year and a half ago, when I was 17 and was very pleased with it. I got good feedback from it but still wasn't happy as I hadn't found the genres and styles of music that wanted to concentrate on. So, over the next year, I researched and listened to as many different types of music as I could. Eventually I found my style, pop/jazz/soul and hip-hop. I would listen out for a song that would stand out to me, something that I could reform and make my own, letting my own style and personality come through.I went back to different recording studio second time round, when I was 18, to Windmill Lane Studios, in the heart of Dublin city, where people like U2, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello and Diana Krall had recorded before. The studio engineer who recorded me had worked with the likes of James Brown and Ray Charles, so I was absolutely speechless as they are two of my all time favourite singers. I have to say, that the 12 hours we spent working with the 4 songs on the demo were just so satisfying, I was in my element!! That night I put the songs up on myspace and since then I've been getting a really good response.I've lately started to gig around the locality and still can't believe you get paid to do this!! I’m studying for a degree in psychology at the moment, as understanding the ways of the human mind is another one of my passions in life! At the moment I'm trying to get as many people as I can to listen to my demo and also searching for a manager aswell.-----------------------------------------------------

MyLiveIreland member, Rebecca Gresty and our music writer Bill Margeson recently made contact in our chat site. Rebecca had a demo of her voice up, and Bill heard it. He loved it! He and Rebecca made contact. Bill then asked for the four-cut demo in cd format, and this week played one of the cuts on his American Public Radio programme based out of Chicago! Bill loves her voice so much that he stated that he would play one cut a week! Here's the big payoff. Rebecca just won her first major singing Award in the Chicago Irish-American News annual, Top TIR Awards! She has been named the winner of the prestigious, Thunder on the Horizon Award !! The thousands and thousands of American readers of the paper will join the thousands of radio listeners in being introduced to a major new talent who debuted right here in MyLiveIreland!! Congrats to Rebecca!!
