There is a thrilling coexistence of various culture and music styles in the european-central city of berlin as well as in the asian city of tokyo.
MERKUR is based in both cities. This schizophrenic situation gives us the privilege to exchange creative processes from one culture to another and allows us to develop an unorthodox blend of music that points into the future.
MERKUR was started by shingo suwa in 2008. He is a producer/DJ who moved from Tokyo to berlin in late 2005 to start his own label.
Affected by berlins infectious techno scene he started his own label to release music which carries as well his asian roots as the new european influences.

Good News from the Merkur Kunst Headquarters, a.k.a the Japanese Diaspora
Embassy: Our Attempt to enrich Berlin cultural activities with a japanese interpretation of electronic music has found its voice with a first 12" vinyl release. Merkur 01 features Gonno, a Tokyo based artist who already released on UK’s Perc records and Japan’s WC recordings. His track “Es†is a pulsating dancefloor twister build on a solid bass substrat rising with warm and tripped out pads.
The flipside brings two tracks by Merkurboss Shingo Suwa. He operates the japanese machines in a classic chicago style - percussive, hypnotic and with this specific grasp only the inventors can provide. These tracks are well made uptempo Technotunes with a slight touch of aristrocratic reserve.
