About Me

had my first taste of electronic music with beats back in '78, listening to kraftwerks 'man machine' on a pair of quality phones at my uncles place at the age of 9... after that, hearing conny planks' productions on early works by ultravox, then discovering visage, gary numan and other english synth music, i became hooked on the pure electronic pulse that characterised dance music... later when 'buffalo gals' 'planet rock' and 'hip hop be bop' came along i realised that the future had arrived... thus the seeds were sown for what would later turn into hardcore, jungle then drum n bass... it has been a steadily evolving path, from those days back in the 70's right up to the present day. In the mid-late 80's hip hop tunes went back to the future, when early 70's funk drum breaks, which had featured in the early roots of bronx hip hop via two turntables and a mixer, started cropping up on tunes by artists such as public enemy and eric b & rakim... thus the golden legacy that was left by the likes of jimmy castor bunch, the incredible bongo band and of course james brown became apparent.. thus the evolution of our music and culture can be stretched back the clubs and streets of the late 60's and early 70's.... In 1988 I bought my first decks, a console made by a guy in his 70's in a garage, belt driven with no pitch control... i learnt to match beats and mix so that by 1993 when i bought my first technics 1210's, it was easy.... that year hardcore was getting up to around 160bpm, tunes by hyper on experience and dj solo were tearin' the roof off... at the same time german trance was getting huge... and it was playing this that i had my first dj'ing break back in 1994... at 'club 157' in dalston/stoke newington... I went on after andy m, who was later to become one of my flatmates, thus began a dj'ing massive that lasted for the next 3 or 4 years... drum n bass took a steep uphill curve in quality between '95-'97, but my crew were only interested in nu-nrg trancey techno.... eventually we went our separate ways, but by the end we had crowds going nuts for encores at the end of our sets, played in venues as diverse as the truman brewery in brick lane, london, jamies bar in holborn and other assorted one offs... then i took time out for a short-lived marriage, and was blessed with the birth of my daughter bethan in 1999...I went back to d&b in a big way in 2002... seeing the valve soundsystem at the brighton racecourse with zinc, lemon d and dillinja made me realise what i had been missing.... started buying vinyl again with a vengeance, going out to nites like renegade hardware or ram records at the end, fabric, assorted nites in leeds and brighton... started producing in september 2006, so i've only been in this game for a relatively short while... other reason users on 'reasonstation.net' like emmeeji, kigami and shultz have shown me the path, and i will be eternally grateful to them and others on the site.... plus a special mention to my man 'madz' who introduced me to the power of 'reason', thanks for everything bro.... and of course my main man runnin point @ 180 in the down from day one instutute, brother..... shouts also to my brighton n hove d&b turntablist crew, emmeeji, big dj gort... letz get them 4 decks together AGAIN and AGAIN... hehe... watch out y'all..... hope you enjoy the selection here, the quality is only going to get better and better...
