Warhol Highway...Brando Skies...

About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4Performing Songwrter Magazine gave her debut CD "Chasing Sacred" a Top Twelve DIY Pick. "Warhol Highway" was the eclectic follow up CD. National Songwriting Contest finals include: Wildflower Arts & Music Festival (TX) Wintertide Songwriting Contest (Martha's Vineyard, MA) Susanne Milsaps KRCL Songwrter Contest (Salt Lake City, UT) and chosen as a participant of the Lavalee Trust Songwriters Workshop headed by Cheryl Wheeler. Mare has also participated in theatre at the Mark Taper Forum of Los Angeles, singing in the 20th anniversary presentation "The Best of All Possible Worlds" directed by Gordon Hunt. Mare Lennon grew up surrounded by music. Her brother (a writer and jazz drummer) Bill, started praticing paradiddles on her head when she was seven, you could say music was literally drummed into her. The Twin Cities was a lush world of diverse music, and Bill dragged her to see Dexter Gordon at the Whole coffeehouse when she was 12. She studied guitar and listened like a fiend to the vinyl dics he gave her. The songwriters were the pull, no matter which genre was spinning: Joni Mitchell, Michael Franks, John Hiatt, Nat King Cole, Gregg Allman, as long as the voice and lyric were true. Los Angeles was the proving ground when she gravitated to songwriter nights held at Highland Grounds, Genghis Cohen and the Troubabdour, all stages she performed on, often supported by the finest players and songwrters in L.A. She currently splits time between Minneapolis and Los Angeles.

Band Members: Juste moi. I travel and perform solo/acoustic most often however, I've been fortunate enough to work with some of the finest musicians and producers in Los Angeles and the Twin Cities. Hugo Fernandes performed and co-produced "Chasing Sacred" with me, and some of the musicians on that CD are: Ken Lasaine (guitar) Candy Lerman (viola/violin) Osama Afiffi (bass) Maia Sharp (saxophone) Matthew Lee (keys) Robin Pearl, Natalie Archangel, (vocals) Jasen Hawks, Phil Maturano drums. The "Warhol Highway" CD was co-produced with Edward Tree, who played bass & zillion guitars. Matthew Lee also played Wurlitzer, and graciously allowed me to record one of his songs "Love Don't Care". Deborah Dobkin performed her percussion wizardry, she's a shaman/genius. Claudia Russell loaned me her banjo, and we used paint brushes and toy bongos for washes of sound here and there. I'm blessed to have worked with these folks."Warhol Highway" & "Chasing Sacred" are available at: cdbaby.com/marelennon cdbaby.com/marelennonMerci Beaucoup!!!
