Men commended for intervening in dog attack Three city employees who intervened in an Aug. 14 dog attack on a man and his 3-year-old daughter were honored this morning in a ceremony at Syracuse City Hall.Mayor Matt Driscoll presented city Department of Public Works employees Jim Collette and Randy Kreis and police Officer Don Schultz with framed commendations in front of a battery of television cameras. Police Chief Gary Miguel praised their bravery.But for Collette, the highlight of the day was a handmade thank-you card made by the 3-year-old girl.“I thought that was great,” Collette said.Robert Walts also praised the Collette and Kreis for stepping up and helping when he and his daughter were confronted by pit bulls on Salisbury Park Drive. Walts said his knees are still stiff and sore from the attack. His daughter was unhurt.Schultz, who heard the incident broadcast over the police radio, shot three of the dogs and ended the attack, Miguel said.
