"BIELIZNA" – a Polish rock group, established in 1984 in Gdansk. Together withother alternative/rock groups they created the Gdansk Alternative Scene, which was in those dark Communist timessomething completely fresh and new in Poland. Since their first album(released in 1988) the band has been consideredas an important and representative group on the Polish alternative scene. Its creative musical activity stands out asan intelligent combination of various musical styles, such as rock, punk, ska, pop, funky and even jazz. Of greatimportance are the lyrics written by leader and vocalist, Jarek Janiszewski. He describes the people and the worldaround us using his original sense of humour, which is surrealistic and maintains great distance to the surroundingreality with a significant dose of irony. Although BIELIZNA uses the classic rock instrumentation of guitars, drums, bass and vocals, the band very often invites to the studio musicians who play the sax, piano, violin and otherinstruments.
The band’s albums: "Dance of the light gorillas" (1988); "Faith, hope, love andinvigilation" (1990); "T.A.G" (1992); "Lady Jola" (1995) and "In a wild country" (2004) haveover the years gained favourable critical opinions and won a lot of devoted fans. The band goes down well during liveappearances, where it shows the audience its more predatory rock nature, while its gifted instrumentalists show offtheir skills in the frequent instrumental parts of the music. BIELIZNA has given concerts in all thesignificant Polish concert-halls and TV and radio shows. In 1992 the band was the star of the legendary Polish rockfestival - "Jarocin Festival". The band has also played concerts in St Petersburg, Vilnius and Berlin. In thealternative musical environment, BIELIZNA is considered to be a cult status group.
