About Me
PRIME STH truly defines what being a tight band is all about. Not only in terms of feel and musical precision, but also as friends, having played together since their teens.
Prime's sound is a resurrection of melody in a rock genre overpopulated with cross over bands that have come and gone. Their strength as a group is letting their well-crafted songs take the forefront. Lead singer Noa Modén's sublime vocal delivery and guitar playing is complemented tastefully by the dynamic guitar versatility of Martin Påhlsson. The rhythm section of Jesper Eksjoo on bass and Kasper Lindgren on drums is second to none, providing a thunderous foundation to the band's wall of sound.
Together for years bashing it out in the Stockholm music scene, Prime STH (STH paying homage to their native Stockholm), got their first real break in the business when they were discovered by Swedish A&R man and producer Sank. He helped channel the band's talents onto their debut album, "Underneath the Surface", for Scandinavian label MNW Records. Sank was immediately attracted to the mixture of dark energy and pop. The brilliant result was a body of work whose melodic sensibilities were equally matched with fearless lyrical introspection.
Upon completion of the album, the trans-Atlantic calls began, and soon after, the band ended up in Los Angeles showcasing for interested labels. The trip was a success, landing the band a deal with Giant Records. Moving to LA, the guys began a new chapter in their lives embracing everything California had to offer, including the beach and surfing! It all felt very natural to them, always thinking in the back of their minds that American audiences would embrace them.
"Underneath the Surface" was also released throughout the rest of Europe, outside Scandinavia, on Rebelution Entertainment. The single, "I Don't Envy You", which was mixed by star producer Andy Wallace (Linkin Park, Nirvana, System of the Down) was released as a first single. The second single, "I'm Stupid- Don't Worry About Me" mixed by Tom Lord Alge (Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson) reached ..23 on the mainstream rock charts and ..34 on the Alternative radio charts in the US.
The momentum of the album also led the band to tour the US, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK and Scandinavia, with highlight opening slots for Blink 182, Stained and Live.
Prime STH recently returned from a 3 city US tour where they participated in Export Music Sweden showcase that brought them to New York, Austin and Los Angeles. Key shows included NY's CBGB's and the South by Southwest Music Conference in Texas.
Prime has completed mixing their new album produced by Noa and Kasper from the band at Decibel studios in Stockholm.
The approach for this album has been a lot more organic and the band has tried to capture more of the true essence of their live performance. Prime is delivering a full blown assault of great new material with tracks such as, "Fishbowl", "Silver Soul" and "Flame" and the more melodic rocking tracks such as, "She's In Hollywood", "This Time" and the title track, "Beautiful Awakening. Album release date for Scandinavia is set for the beginning of March 2004, and mid April for the rest of Europe.
Recently, Noa was asked how the members of the band differed in personality and if at all in musical vision. He answered, "you get to know one of us and you pretty much get to know all of us. We all need and count on each other, and we're all looking positively towards the release of the new album and the next phase of our career. Together, we're great in this band, but maybe outside of this band, we suck! So far, everything from our first drink together to our last has been together."
Prime STH a tight band? I think so…
