Renthouse Groove are a colourful and confident 7-piece outfit who blast a smooth mix of grooving funk/soul and rock, mixed with frontwoman Chloe Laing's dynamic vocals and reggae influences, making it a very vintage yet fresh and unique sound.
With a hot status on the festival and party circuit, and having recently supported the likes of electro/funk chart-act Unklejam and soul/pop artist David Jordan (recently had a U.K top 5 hit), Renthouse Groove provide a slick funk and soul show with plenty of style and flare, and are fast building a reputation as one of Wales' most talented up-and-coming young bands.
It all began after a break from drunk/funkers Dirty Dog at the end of summer '06, with Janeo Thomas taking to the mike with some of the 'Dog members, making a sharp little 4-piece. But after much fun and gigging through the majority of 2007, Janeo had to part with the band and pursue her university degree, and this left Renthouse collaborating with afew different artists for a while.
But as the end of '07 closed in, everything began falling into place. The edition of ex-Cheapskates guitarist and D'n'B producer Gareth(Shneee)Evans added experience and depth to the band, and not long after, hip-hop DJ The Infamous Len joined up on the turntables, giving a fresh new, fatter sound.
And as we rolled into the start of the new year, Chloe Laing was introduced to the line-up on vocals, and Lucas Morgan on Percussion. This was the final piece to the jig-saw and felt like the right line-up to charge on!
So who knows what 2008 holds?....Just another chapter in the 'Groove revolution.
Here's a snip of 'Soul/Testify', into 'Kissing My Love', & 'Don't Pick Me Up' -With singer Di Ford before the current line-up.
Western Telegraph - 'Renthouse Groove delivered another top notch set cementing their growing reputation as one of the premier live acts in the county. Their danceable brand of funk was eaten up by the crowd.'
The Milford Mercury - 'Renthouse Groove play a pounding mix of funk and soul, navigating classics from the likes of Bill Withers and Aretha Franklin with dextrous ease. With sexy, croony female vocals and rhythms as addictive as nicotine, they are sure to get the carnival atmosphere bouncing. They're fun, impossible not to dance to and sizzling with energy.'
