Ellis Uniques says STOP for Love

Touting a sound reminiscent of ‘90’s R&B mixed with equal parts Hip-hop, Electronica and futuristic Pop, Ellis Uniques announces the beginning of its Red Death Series. A conceptually driven effort, Red Death is a collection of all new music regarding the concept of death. In this instance the lines between love and death are blurred, wherein a Red Death is symbolic of the process of losing oneself to merge and build a relationship with another being – in essence the death of one’s former single self and the birth of a new holistic being comprised of two or more individuals.
Love Song, the first release of the new collection was produced by LeVonne Johnson, a Richmond-based producer, and co-produced by Ellis Uniques member Richie Skye. The uptempo dance track prominently features writing and vocals by Richie Skye and is metaphorical in its concept of love and unexpected death, which many listeners may not catch upon first listen. The group will shoot a video for the track within the next two weeks, along with a video for another new single, STOP, from the duo’s debut album 35 Miles, available via iTunes, Rhapsody and other major digital retailers.
“This is completely unique concept because we’re building an experience with our new music. We wanted to develop a bigger picture for people, something that they can identify with, and follow along like a story,” producer Richie Skye said. “It seems like a lot of popular music is really disposable these days. That’s not to say the music isn’t great – but you’ll hear like one great song but there’s no larger concept to follow. With this series you’ll follow two characters – mine and my group mate E.Maria, as we experience these crazy love stories.
“Love Song is really the first step; it begins the story. It’s the warm and fuzzy side of love, where you don’t realize its happening, and is, thus, the start of Red Death. We wanted something really upbeat for that, and it’s different for me because I’m not traditionally a singer, but I felt the need to challenge myself because I think we all feel kind of invincible when we’re in love, so I guess you could say I was feeling rather adventurous.”
Another track in the Red Death Series is STOP, a standout piano-driven ballad, from the duo’s debut album, revealing the darker side of love. “STOP really shows the addictive side of love, where you know a situation is extremely bad and hurtful, but you just can’t let go…and you’re basically begging the other person to end it first because you just can’t,” Richie Skye continued. “E. Maria actually sings that song and you’ll see how her storyline starts and develops with another type of death, as that relationship slowly decays and deteriorates.”
The duo is finalizing the concept and continues to let the project grow and take shape on it’s on. Supporters of the group can look forward to more details as they become available. “We look at this as less of just releasing another album, but it’s almost like a mini-series. The plot will continue to develop with each new song that we release, and you’ll follow these characters onward as they continue on their journeys of love.”
