About Me

Hailing from Ft. Green, Brooklyn, G.C. and Soul Mafia offer a vision of music looking towards the future, drawing from the past, but firmly entrenched in the present. Their sound reflects influences as varied as Coltrane to Jay-Z, Coldplay to Prince, while ultimately landing within the graffiti tagged walls of hip-hop. The result is a Molotov cocktail of adept wordplay and searing saxophone riffs; hard beats and lush orchestration; technology and soul.Born in Boston, raised in the Midwest, and now based in Brooklyn, music has always been a constant in the life of G.C. At the age of four he played harmonica along with his dad on guitar. At the age of nine he got his first beat up saxophone and along the way he picked up guitar, flute, piano, and drums. His love for rap was cemented after hearing the highly melodic approach of Dr. Dre on The Chronic.Since landing in New York City in 2001, G.C. has become a strong presence on the underground through a trial by fire of open mics, battles, self promoted shows, and guerilla marketing tactics. His performance, a blistering live hip-hop set, immediately sets G.C. apart from his peers. Backed by Soul Mafia, the hard hitting ensemble led by producer/keyboardist Prism, G.C. has graced stages from Joes Pub to The Copacabana to Hot 97s Festival Stage at Summer Jam. Welcome to the future of hip-hop.
Apparel for the hard fought victories of dreamers, Brooklyn and beyond…
We Are Brooklyn is a clothing line that represents artist empowerment. Flying in the face of both the “I’m not a rapper I’m a hustler” business uber alles model and the starving artist stereotype- W.A.B. suggests that the new era of artists will not sacrifice their artistic vision or their financial destiny. The first limited edition crew tee is available in L and XL male, and M female- they are 100% cotton Royal Apparel garments. Partial proceeds go to helping drastically underfunded public music programs in at risk areas of Brooklyn.
