My name is Desmond David Hume. I’m in love with Penny Widmore, although you probably wouldn’t believe that. I keep running away from her. Perhaps I have a problem with commitment—like when I was dishonourably discharged from Her Majesty the Queen's Royal Scotch Regimen because I couldn’t follow orders, or Ruth when I decided to join a monastery instead of marrying her. Oh well—to hell with them all. At least I met my Penelope after I was fired from that monastery from drinking on the job. I suppose I’m still trying to find myself. I crashed on bloody Snow Globe Island after trying to win my honour back from Penny’s father by entering in his race around the world after he banished me from seeing her. A nice lady in a coffee shop donated her boat to me as I had no money to speak of, and after months of training I set out—only to crash when a bad storm hit during the night while I was nearing Fiji. A man named Kelvin found me, and I spent three years of my life pushing a button on the Island and saving the world. That was until the hatch imploded. If nothing else, at least I'm free of the thing, but when I woke up, I started having visions of the future. I don't understand it myself, and I don't know if I was given a gift or a curse. Now I am on a freighter because of one of those visions, and I experienced some strange side effects along the way, but Daniel helped me find my constant--Penny. She remembered to answer my call! Eight years and she remembered! I love you, Penny! I’ve always loved you. I made a huge mistake when I broke up with you. I’m so sorry Penny. Thank you for believing me—you still care about me.
