Band Members: tony primavera = the can't
Influences: I began the can't in Fort Worth, Texas in 1990-91 when I learned to work my roommate Jacky's 4-track recorder. Jacky and I played in Divine Vomit together in high school in the 80s and then in The Codependents in the early 90s. Earlier in the 80s, before I knew what a 4-track was, I made tapes to play to and then coupled them on the stereo and played over them, creating multiple tracks. The method of the can't songwriting has always been: Press Record and Go! All is improvised and all is made by me alone. When I needed more people to do live shows, I began Shiva the Destroyer...the fuller extension of the can't, which worked in the same improvised pop style. The styles of the can't music varies, but the common points are improvisation and that the songs come from my head. The name came from my Marine Corps father's constant mantra: Never Say Can't. Still, as always, as with Shiva the Destroyer, the moment is the important thing...spontaneity is the can't.
