Chaka Fattah's Story Chaka Fattah's grassroots beginnings drive his passion for creating real opportunity for all Philadelphians. As a teenager, he and his family led the way in changing the lives of thousands of young men at the House of Umoja - an urban boystown that became an award-winning international model for community-based violence prevention. Soon after his experience there, Fattah ran for public office because he believed that he and every Philadelphian must take responsibility for making this city great. At just 21, after nearly winning his bid for the office of City Commissioner, Fattah learned the intricacies of city government while working in the managing director's office. Four years later, Fattah was elected the youngest person ever to serve in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives. He eventually went on to serve Philadelphia in the state senate and has spent the last twelve years. Now, Fattah wants to come home to serve Philadelphia as its Mayor. Congressman Fattah, a dedicated husband and father of four, is committed to providing the kind of leadership that creates real opportunity for all Philadelphians. With your help, as Mayor, he will make Philadelphia a city of real opportunity, of shared responsibility, and of continued progress and limitless promise for all of us.

Getting You There: Transportation Goals Fattah will work to grow and promote PhillyCarShare, a non-profit car-sharing service that provides Philadelphians affordable access to cars in their neighborhoods. Fattah will use city-sponsored mailings and other city promotional tools to promote PhillyCarShare, as part of an overall goal of emphasizing green transportation alternatives and reducing traffic congestion. Safety on the Street: Fattah's Plan for a Gun Safe Philadelphia
As homicides in our city have increased, the rate that the Police Department has cleared cases has dropped. Of the 380 murders committed in Philadelphia in 2005, 47.1% remained unsolved. The Fattah Administration would focus new resources to increase the number of homicide detectives and increase the accountability of commanders for solving murder cases. Building A New Ownership Class
The Fattah Administration will work closely with the Departments of Finance and Housing and Community Development to help turn Philadelphia renters into Philadelphia Homeowners. Fattah will provide a one year exemption from the city’s property tax of up to $4,000 for first-time Philadelphia home buyers and will target students and workers who have resided in Philadelphia for at least 3 years. A Healthier Philadelphia

The Future of Technology
The Fattah Administration will continue to support and improve wireless internet in Philadelphia. In addition, Fattah plans expand the Digital Inclusion Initiative by supplying low-income Philadelphians's with hardware, software, tech support, information, and broadband Internet services at a reasonable rate.
