Chaos Con Queso (BACK ON MAY 17TH!!)

Like LOTR turned into music!

About Me

- We've been called everything from, "Acid Jazz," to, "Grunge," to, "Experi-metal Emotive Nintendocore." We've been compared to just about every band in the world, from any era, and none of them ever match one another.
- Our influences are as varied as our hairstyles.
- None of our synths are pre-programmed on a laptop, we only use one guitarist because he's as good as two, and we use a real cello.
- None of us are of Hispanic origin. The name rolled off of Dave Greer's tongue one day and has stuck ever since. And it's actually become somewhat of an accurate description of our music: chaotic and kinda cheesy.
- We don't try to be anything, except for fun. We write music with no real goals, soundwise.
- Our first show was at Northern Lights, on March 26th, 2006, with a buncha ska bands. It hailed.
- The cops got called on our practices on a regular basis for the first year or so (thanks, neighbors!). One time, we gave copies of our demo to the cops and they said they'd listen to it while working out in the gym.
- At some point, every member has hated every other member.
- We handed out and sent away over 300 free copies of our first demo, "Putting the Formula Through a Blender", not only all over our city, but all over the country, and much later all over the world. The demo itself was studio-recorded, but everything else was completely homemade and paid for with our own money. We hate our first demo.
- At some point, we've pissed off about 90% of the local hardcore community, unintentionally. Cellos are apparently, "gay."
- We like shows. We like going to them and we like playing them. We kinda like booking them, too. Davegunn books shows now, too.
- We strive to be the nicest, most sincere band we can be. All our messages and comments are hand-typed. Even though we're poor, we give things away for really cheap, sometimes even free. We write songs without worrying about what's, "normal." We genuinely treasure anyone and everyone who comes to a show, buys something, or even gives us a chance. Music is more than being popular, trendy, macho, or profitable. It's our lives.
If you want to watch a band that can be emotional, silly, angry, spiteful, positive, cliche, and original within the course of twenty-five minutes, check us out.
If you want to book a band that will play just about anywhere with just about anyone of any respected genre and totally freak out and maybe even steal the hearts of whoever comes... drop us a line.
We may be rough, we may be bizarre, we may not sound like what you're used to, but that might be exactly what you need.
LIST OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
- We were added to legendary California Nintendo-grind group iamerror 's top friends. They hate everyone, but apparently not us!
- We opened for one of our favorite bands and personal heroes, HORSE the band on September 26th, 2006. Erik borrowed davegunn's keyboard amp and they all said a few words about us while on stage.
- We were regulars on the Canadian experimental electro-rock podcast, The Rainbow Family Podcast .
- Our song "The Miles Are Never Far Enough" was featured on Squish Squash Squad 's second annual online compilation of Nintendo-inspired music, which can be downloaded for free here .
- The first batch of t-shirts we had printed sold out in a month. The second batch sold out in about three months.
- We were used as a definition and example for the term, "ghost town," on the famous Urban Dictionary website.
- We won the first round of the Gorilla Productions battle of the bands at Northern Lights on February 10th, 2008, pitted against five other local bands.

"One of the most notable and compelling aspects of Chaos Con Queso's latest and first full-length CD is their unique use of synth-driven keyboards and swooning cello solos. The album daps into a number of post-hardcore genres while still retaining its own distinctive 'CCQ' feel, which can only be described as, 'sorta like , digital-rockish, uh... it's like indie, experimental... aw, screw it, man! Just listen for yourself!' Notable tracks on the album include 'Casket' and 'King's Tale', which sew unique storylines into a quilt of grinding guitar work, clean keyboards, a steady back beat, and arousing vocals, whose musicianship and vastness is reminiscent of Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. CCQ's mix of talented guitar work, unique lyrics, and overall originality make 'Ghost Town' a surprise 5-star pick for 2007. Look out, ladies and gentlemen, it looks like CCQ has arrived, and we wouldn't be surprised if they are here to stay..."
