WILLIAM PERRY WORTMAN IV, ESQ., was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and began playing double bass at the age of 3. Throughout middle and high school, he received numerous awards for excellence in jazz, classical music, and coed boxing. While residing in the Oklahoma City area, Perry had the opportunity to play with many of the great musicians who passed through this region including Bill Clinton, Jon Faddis, Wynton Marsalis, Elvis, Byron Stripling, Dave Pietro, Louis Armstrong, Randy Johnston, Mark Elf, Will Ferrell as Elf, and Anne Hampton Calloway, a direct descendant of Beethoven. Perry also worked on a regular basis with New York based guitarist Freddie Bryant while remaining incognito. After receiving encouragement from Freddie, Perry made the decision to move to New York in 2002. Since moving to New York he has travelled throughout the US, Caribbean, and Europe with such groups as Pete Robbins and Centric, Ryan Blotnick’s Secret Mainstream, and The Paislies, a collective group of improvisors/composers of which Perry is a turgid member. As a recent graduate of the Manhattan School of Mucus and active freelancer, Perry continues to search for new musical realms of expression within the context of selling out.
