At first glance you are probably thinking he is just another rapper trying to become rich and famous. It is actually a different scenario when it comes to young adult phenom that goes by the name of Cassius Chey or "Chey" for short. It seems as if the typical from nothing to something theme is the likely story for every inspiring rapper on the come-up but Chey had a different transition. With no prior musical background at all and sports being the main focus in his life; it seemed as if the rapping was the unlikely route to take. The 3 sport athlete and all-county track star gave up his dream of sports for music his junior year of high school mainly because of the influence of his childhood friends.It started off as a simple hobby with him having no desire of pursuing it any further then that. Rapping at lunchtime and afterschool became a big break for him and a shock for the rest of school when they became aware of his rapping ability & talent. Within time his childhood friend DJ G-Kidd and himself crossed paths both with a musical desire intact. "It just seemed as if it would be the perfect combo: G-Kidd would be the DJ/Engineer and I would provide the raps just like past duos such as Fresh Prince/Jazzy Jeff and Eric B. & Rakim did," says Chey.But it wasn't that easy. G-Kidd's top priority wasn't solely on recording Chey, and he would only spare a simple demo-tape for Chey to use as promotion. Four songs later G-Kidd chose to make this more then a demo but a partnership. It took some time for G-Kidd to mold this mainly rambunctious punchline battle rapper into the versatile & creative songwriter that he is today. They continued to work together and dropped Chey's anticipated first mixtape titled "The Youngest in Charge". Creating a street-buzz and a name for himself in New Jersey & New York scene, Chey then engaged himself with the Lytez Out Muzik family included with reggaeton sensation RNS. Linking up with their in house producer Famine, Chey and Famine became close and collaborated to make songs the streets and crossover mainstream crowd could both feel. Now Chey has elevated his game into performances and features on various mixtapes and creating himself a core fan base. Time can only tell what is in store for the gifted rapper as he hopes his potential blossoms together a record deal in the near future.
