Hi, my name is Matt David and I've been a professional DJ and record producer for over 10 years. My real name is Dave and I used to work under the name of David H (very long story about why I don't use that name anymore, buy me a beer and I'll tell you). For three years I helped produced the mixes that you would hear on Friday Night Kiss, so if you ever wondered who did those mixes, now you know. I love all kinds of music, especially Soulful & Funky House. To me being a DJ is a passion, a way of expressing yourself through music, sharing your soul with hundreds of clubbers and having a good time in the process.I currently present THE HOUSING PROJECT every Wednesday & Saturday night from 9pm on 91.8 Hayes FM, playing nothing but the best in funky house and dance for the more discerning clubber. THE HISTORY Matt David started his music career in the early nineties as a radio presenter on a small local community radio station based in East London. In was in this role that he was asked to host various roadshows and live nightclub gigs. During those early years Matt moved frequently from one radio station to another but saw him regularly rubbing shoulders with the industries elite performers.Matt's radio career took a pause as he moved into the club scene and secure himself sets at Ministry Of Sound, Camden Palace and regular gigs at the Broadway Boulevard in Ealing were he would be working alongside Brandon Block, Alex P, Tall Paul, Judge Jules, Dave Pearce, Lisa Pin-Up, Graham Gold, Nicky Holloway, John Kelly, Dave Lambert, Martin Lanier, Ross Young & Chunky. It was in Ealing (his hometown) that he teamed up with Mark Doyle before he formed Hed Kandi. Matt was playing the warm-up sets alongside Andy Norman and Matt Collins at the famed Back To Love nights alongside his other gigs at various clubs and bars around the West London area. Matt and Hed Kandi were due to take different paths and as the Hed Kandi phenomena took effect Matt returned to the studio, both radio and production.
In 1999 Matt created the first of his many remixes, taking the club classic ‘Touch Me’ by Cathy Denis and giving it a new lease of life. It was an instant hit with DJ’s far and wide but never gained any commercial success. Matt has since produced numerous remixes for a wide variety of artists such as Kylie Minogue, Liberty X, Spiller, Madison Avenue, Lipps Inc, Heather Small, Fleetwood Mac Beastie Boys, Roachford, and Dandy Warhols. Many of Matt's mixes were soon to make their way onto DMC's monthly mailouts, reaching hundreds of DJ's around the world. Also in 1999 Matt created The Project, a radio show initially based on Future FM, a West London radio station, and after a short while The Project moved to a new home. Life FM was an established station based in West London broadcasting on the internet, and they welcomed Matt with open arms.
As more and more work commitments took hold, in May 2002 Matt broadcasted his last show on Life FM to allow him time to concentrate on other areas of his career. Matt was soon freelancing for Holiday FM, an English radio station broadcasting to British holiday makers on the Spanish mainland and islands, in particular Ibiza and Tenerife. With his radio and production experience it wasn’t long before Matt was approached about producing shows for Kiss 100. For three years Matt helped produced the mixes on Friday Night Kiss. Broadcasting not only on Kiss 100 in London, Friday Night Kiss was also syndicated across the country. Every Friday evening thousands of clubbers would get ready for the weekend with the soundtrack provided by Matt David. In late 2005 Kiss 100 reformatted it’s programmes and even though Friday Night Kiss remained in it’s same slot, a new presenter and format left no room for Matt’s mixes.
Fast forward to 2007 and Matt is still out every weekend playing to full houses across the country. His production work hasn’t ceased and there are already plans for over 30 mixes and remixes this year. Matt has also reformatted The Project and is currently in negotiation with several radio stations about it’s return to the airwaves later this year.
Matt’s DJ style is incredibly eclectic and highly technical. Taking records from different genres and mixing them into one style, his sets can only be described as vocal funky house. Matt likes to create journeys within his sets crossing different genres but always fused together with that energetic funky party style of his. Never one to stick to trends or latest fads, Matt isn’t afraid taking chances during his sets, and not just play all the latest tracks but drop new and unused tracks or even crowd pleasing classics. Matt also likes to define his sets with exclusive tracks and personal remixes to create a unique experience so whenever he hits the decks you can be guaranteed a packed dancefloor from start to finish.
