SORRY its in 3rd person but here is a bio of my djing journey!!!Carmen at 19 startd Djing in Dec of 2004... she was taught by Dave..Dj Autopsy. She startd partying in the rave scene in the year of 1999 and always had a love for jungle/drum and bass. She remembers venturing to the bassment of The Nile and always wondering what this amazing music she loved was. But, like most kids in the scene she started off as a Kandi Kid and also was more actively in the punk and ska scene. She didnt take djing into interest until she came across a lad named Travis who had turntables (technics mk1200s) and a mixer (pioneer djm300) just collecting dust. So she decided to have Travis' friend Dave teach her how to mix. And it started off with Drum and Bass. He taught her two things...how to match beats and drop the record. And it was on from there and she practiced. Now, they weren't her tables so she went and bought the Dj in a box set of the Numarks at Guitar Center, which helped her. But soon realized if she wants to take this seriously she would need to step up her gear. She soon bought Travis' set up and she was ready to rock! Then in 2005 she was given a chance to run her first weekly called Urban Hardware Fridays at a place calld BJs. It was a first step for her. She was 20 running a weekly at a bar and also being able to drink which was a plus. She also had an opening slot every week at this venue. Soon after that her friend David, IKON1, hooked her up with her first party CHICKS VS DICKS. Excited and motivated that she was an official Dj she decided to go with the name CARMEN VEGA this name would stick in people heads for years to come! Carmen got many other bookings following that. She later decided to hand over Urban Hardware Fridays to David, IKON1. First cause she did not want to control it, rather just enjoy the night... secondly as a thank you for her first booking. From their she started up another weekly known as Underground Thursdays at the Counter Culture Cafe. Mainly a haven for kids under 21 to go to and also to have more drum and bass weeklies. Realizing she really just enjoys playing parties and that it was pretty exhausting running an event every week she cancelled Underground Thursdays. She soon met up with her friend Micheal Frost, who believed in and loved her style of music. She became apart of his krew... Party Kid Productions! And started to play parties that Mike Frost threw. After about a year and half of playing parties and weeklies she sooned realized to get bookings outside of PKP she would need to make a demo cd. So in the fall of 2006 she came out wit her first demo cd 'IS IT WINTER YET?'. She had given out cd of mixes she had done before such as DRUNKNBASS SESSIONS and JUNGLE MIX, but these were just cds of her practicing. 'IS IT WINTER YET?' was really her first real demo cd she passed out at weeklies, parties, and to friends. She soon after got booked at SHE WARS which was a huge accomplishment for her! An all girl DJ lineup, four stages, at the ICEHOUSE. Playing at the IceHouse had been a goal of Carmens from the beginning and she had finally achieved that. Also Headlining this Party was Dj Rapp, a long time inspiration and favorite of Carmens. She couldn't believe she had actually got the booking from her mix cd. From their she contiued to put out demo cd's such as GURL RUKKUS. And she continued to play parties here and there. Then in 2007 she was once again given a chance to run another weekly at a place called EJs, she called it LISTEN UP! It went well for a bit, but realizing she couldnt afford the sound every single week she soon passed the weekly onto Deep Down Entertainment. You see out of all the three weeklies Carmen has set up she never once charged a cover charge and was never paid for her services, by choice. She brought her own equipment to every weekly she threw and paid sound out of her pockets. Mainly because she just wanted to give back to the scene and show her love for the music that makes her heart beat, DRUM AND BASS. So with no fundage coming in to pay the sound she decided to pass it over and just come and play at EJs. To this day she is still coming up with new mixes and exploring the different genres of Electronic music and hip hop. After learning how to mix Hip Hop she started getting booked on a weekly basis at Alice Coopers Town. She would play Hip Hop during intermissions of rock concerts while the bands were setting up or if bands were changing. Presently, she no longer plays at Alice Coopers Town but is still playing parties and is now currently working on bookings in California and in Tucson. Her next goal to accomplish is making a name for herself in California, as a dj, but also as a partier/dancer. Carmen Vega is a name that will stick and who knows ten years down the line she might known to all, hopefully, as an awesome DJ.... maybe producer... and just an all around rocking person who really has love for DRUM AND BASS!!!!----PARTIES IVE PLAYED!!!---- ME IN DISNEYLAND!!!! FUUUUUN!
