The Bohemian Church

Foxes have holes, and birds have nest, but the Son of Man has no place to lie down and rest.

About Me

www.bohemianchurch.com

Our Mission: To encourage, inspire, challenge and equip artistic and creative people to boldly fulfill the purpose God has for their lives.
We are artists of many forms and fashions, creative people; some accomplished in their art forms, some not even willing to call themselves artists, but whose hearts long for more creative living. We believe God placed that longing in us and we seek to deepen our relationships with Him. We are passionately pursuing Christ's purpose for our very existence. We long to worship Him with the gifts He has given us, and we take seriously the call to encourage one another both in our faith and in our giftings. Our service is very laid back, interactive and prayerful in nature.
We believe it is not one man’s responsibility to live out the spiritual life of the entire church body. Each person is responsible for their own walk with Christ. We battle complacency by creating a desire in each participant to dig deeper and to seek God, to know why they believe what they believe rather than mindlessly adopting the belief systems of others. We are a mix of “conservatives”, “liberals”, “independents”, punks, hippies, beatnicks, and all in between. We all have one thing in common. We want more of Jesus. We want the real deal with no hype.
It is our desire that all artistic and creative people come to know God in a personal and unshakable way. We don’t claim to have the answers, but we know who does. We don’t claim to be perfect, but we know who is. That person is Jesus Christ.

WHAT IS A BOHEMIAN?

Bohemian: a person (as a writer or an artist) living an unconventional life usually in a colony with others. -Merriam-Webster Dictionary

"Bohemianism is not a trend, it's a tireless movement, a way of life both fleeting and enduring that reappears every now and then as a backlash against our bourgeois, mass market, easy access culture...

Bohemians defy exact definition because they are essentially errant spirits. Bohemians are society's outlaws - mavericks, vagabonds, mad scientists, gypsies, theater people, artists, deviants, radicals, outsiders.

You know them when you see them: She wears velvet in the rain. He dances with pigeons and does magic tricks in the bookstore cafe'. They walk from Nice to Florence and have a child named Sienna.

Bohemians may get on your nerves, but even when they appear to be idle, down-and-out, opinionated slackers, they're stirring things up. Bohemians are the ultimate elitists. They want to run things. they break the rules, set the trends, knit the knits, destroy the art and reinvent the art that everyone wants, or will want. Bohemians start movements. Bohemians change thinking. Bohemians stay up all night talking, and sometimes they write manifestos. Bohemians cross cultures and integrate mantras, philosophies, substances and clothing seamlessly into everyday life. Bohemians tenderly and violently create new work and change paradigms. Bohemians change the world."

WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe the Bible is the truthful, written word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit; it should be used as instruction and correction for our lives.
We believe in God, the Almighty Father, the creator of the universe, and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. Three days later, He rose from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father, and He will return to judge those living and dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the gathering of believers, the communion of believers, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and everlasting life.
We believe the teachings of Jesus and strive to make those teachings an active part of our everyday life.
We believe art and creativity are gifts from God and should be valued as such.
Art and creativity can and should be a spiritual connection between man and God.
Art and creativity should not be limited to religious or political propaganda, but should be used as a form of worship, communication and self expression.
God reveals Himself as an artist through creation, Jesus reveals Himself as an artist through storytelling. The Holy Spirtit reveals Himself as an artist through inspiring the writings of the apostles and through inspiring many artists today.
