Our mission is to write music that soothes aching souls everywhere. Starting with our very own, we write each and every song with a passion unmatched. The lyrics are real, and the music is meaningful. And we hope that once it comes from us, that it will filter right into the hearts of all that listen.
Decadence....What started as just an idea in early 2007, then evolved to a side project in mid 2007, has become a full on rock assault. Founding members JD Whitman and Josh Rowe had the idea of doing an accoustic side project, while taking part in their other bands Examining Emma and War From Brotherhood. Both were at the time the frontmen for the two bands respectively. But soon after that was in the process of getting started, both guys found that they needed to move on from those projects and start their own thing. Both were previous members of Examining Emma, so their chemistry was there, they just needed two more pieces to the puzzle. After several months of going through some talented musicians they added Jonathan King, previously with the bands Calling For Liberty and Downpour, to the fold. Jonathan's intense style, and also the added ability to contribute to vocals, just made the band that much stronger. After his addition the only missing piece was an experienced bass player. That pursuit ended when Danny Coursey walked in. His experience and technique was an instant hire on the spot. Now they are just waiting on whatever opportunities present themselves. Having already played several strong venues, they are making a name for themselves pretty quickly. Their overall experience and dedication has drawn them quick success in many ways, and has also helped them build a pretty decent fan base for a band that is still pretty young. So hold to the edge of your seat and watch out for the storm in 2008 that is the band "DECADENCE." You can hear Josh and JD both on Examining Emma's 2007 release "Underneath" also, as they contributed to the vocals on that EP. Their band members short personal biographies are as follows:
JD Whitman handles all guitar duties for Decadence. JD is a seasoned musician with over 15 years of experience in both guitar and vocals. He hails from Dallas TX. with ties also in Six Mile SC, as well as Atlanta GA. JD cut his teeth in the music industry in the high profile music scene that is Dallas, TX. JD has been in several local SC bands such as, Examining Emma and War From Brotherhood. Also had some roles in bands out in Texas. JD has an uncanny ability to write in a number of styles, and serve as the rhythm and lead parts. From Chunky Rhythm parts to screaming leads he can manage it all. At this time JD is using Schecter guitars and Marshall amps. In the near future he will be adding PRS and Line 6 to that repotoire. He uses Ernie Ball Strings. As of right now JD is living here in Newberry SC.
Josh Rowe is the frontman for Decadence. Born and raised here in Newberry, Josh is right in his comfort zone to write the lyrics that portray Decadence. Josh has been in one previous band, that being Examining Emma. With almost 2 years of experience around the entire state of SC, Josh has become comfortable in delivering like a frontman should. Easily you can see the raw techniques of his main influences Shaun Morgan and Corey Taylor in his vocals, with the ability to change to the more clear and clean vocals of his own unique style. With guitar experience as well it makes for a great writing combination for JD and Josh. Josh uses Shure and AKG mics. with Kustom and Peavey monitors and PA.
Jonathan king is the drummer for Decadence. Jonathan hails from Clinton SC. He has been behind a drumset the majority of his life, but as a serious player for about 7 years, with 1 year of onstage experience. He has been in two prior bands, Downpour and Calling For Liberty. Jonathan is a very artistic and precise drummer, and you can see many of his influences such as, Tool, Sevendust, Breaking Benjamin, etc. in his playing. He uses Pearl Drums, with Zildjian and Sabian cymbals. Vic Firth and Vater are his sticks of choice.
Danny Coursey is the bass player for Decadence. He hails from Greenwood SC. Danny has about 6 years of solid experience on bass having played with such bands as: Mojo Rising, Slitsixwayz, Threshold, and No Exit. His influences are Sevendust, Killswitch Engage, and George Clinton as well as many others. He uses a Schecter bass, DR Strings, and Hartke cabs. He supplied the final and missing piece that has created Decadence.
There's no sugar coating, we have NO desire to cut ourselves or cry to the world about our highschool sweetheart leaving us for the jock. For all you know, we're the jock that took your woman. If you are into REAL music and by real I mean the experience of life put into melody. Stick by us, you won't be dissappointed.
Decadence generally refers to the alleged decline of a society because of moral weakness. In modern use, decadence is often defined as a decline in morals and abandonment of the pursuit of ideals. It is typified by the elevation of superficial self-indulgence and intellectual pretension over experience and tradition, and is often considered materialistic.
"Men first feel necessity, then look for utility, next attend to comfort, still later amuse themselves with pleasure, thence grow dissolute in luxury, and finally go mad and waste their substance." - Giambattista Vico
With all that being stated, we are who we are. Decadence... the state that the world is in as we know it. But we are a band that will not give into the conformation of a Liberal society as many of our predecessors have. We stand firm on what we believe and generate every ounce of our music with integrity and the honest feelings of our hearts and souls. "Never Give In, and Never Give Up."
