War On Hunger

Welcome to the War on Hunger. Supported by the student friends of the World Food Programme to aid and educate students about the United Nations World Food Program (WFP).
In 2004, Auburn University became the first university to partner with the WFP in a student-led “War on Hunger” Campaign. WFP is the largest and most responsive humanitarian organization in the world, providing food annually for an average of 90 million people in more than 80 countries. The Committee of 19, a group of dedicated students who represent every school, college, and major organization on campus lead Auburn’s grassroots effort. The committee takes its name from the mere 19 cents a day it takes to feed a hungry child in the developing world.
Auburn University is privileged to have been selected by the United Nations World Food Programme as its lead academic partner in a recently launched student “War on Hunger” campaign. In the true spirit of the Auburn Creed, this bold initiative reflects Auburn's commitment to creating a learning environment where intellectual discovery and social responsibility come together in pursuit of a sustainable world...a world that protects the natural environment and enhances human health and well-being for present and future generations. In preparing students to become global citizens through ambitious efforts like the “War on Hunger”, the university seeks to ground Auburn men and women in the knowledge that a quality education and, indeed a quality life, is not just a matter of the mind, but also of the heart.
In partnership with the UN World Food Programme, Auburn University will be the catalyst mobilizing universities across the nation and around the globe to create a grassroots student campaign to conquer world hunger and malnutrition. The focus of the campaign will also give momentum to local hunger initiatives.
