About Me

t's fair to say portrait drawing is what I really like to do. I specialise mainly with the pencil and it's classical art as opposed to modern conceptual art that inspires me. I draw on many influences, from the PreRaphaelites to Botticelli to Leonardo da Vinci...If I was put on the spot I'd have to say my favourite artist of all time would be the PreRaphaelite genius Edward Burne Jones. Upon starting a day's work he would announce to his assistants 'Let the lunacy commence' I think I would have liked EBJ. I think he had my kind of humour. There are days when I face the easel and I simply don't know what's going to happen to a drawing. I'm all for a little lunacy if it gets the picture done :-) :-) ;-)
My aim, if I can achieve it, is to try to give my portraits a life-like quality.
Examples of my work can be found here in my photo albums at MySpace, and more comprehensively at my website Portr8s.com
Music?...I can't draw without it
I find music very important to me as I'm often inspired by it. I'd say a number of drawings I have done would never have come about without it. It's important to have something playing in the background when I draw. It could be rock, opera, or a timeless classic. I'm much in awe of musicians and song writers. Putting aside my skillful, but ultimately guttural efforts with the windpipe, I can't play a note on anything but if I could play one instrument I'd love to play the acoustic guitar.
Talking of music, below is a player featuring the fantastic singing voice of Gari Glaysher. It's a privilege to call him a friend here on myspace...
