In 1995, the golden age of Indie-rock, Mikael Jorgensen was growing weary of the limitations of pop music. Fueled by healthy amounts of art school cynicism and the post adolescent desire to create something unique, Movere Workshop was formed in the basement of a house in Leonardo, New Jersey.
Greg O'Keeffe showed up to play for the first time, confronted by microphones and now-outdated digital audio recording equipment. Impressed by the moxie of these puppety oddballs, he continued to play in the group. At a rehearsal he quipped, "I'm so psyched about this," and promptly smashed his tourist-grade kalimba on the pine timber floor of the loft / rehearsal space.
Flash forward, if you will, to the Summer00. Mikael has moved to Chicago and helped construct SOMA Electronic Music Studios and was employed for several years following. Mr. O'Keeffe was summoned to once again use his skills to apply rhythmic elements to a series of "songs" that were created in a cloud of boo.
Flash even further forward to Winter06, where once again, (doesn't he get tired of this?) Grego exctricated himself to the confines of a cold-ass Chicago loft where he, Mr. J., Matt Lux, Jim Becker and Mr. Russ Arbuthnot (on the dials & tape machines) recorded the forthcoming album, "Surrounded By Ruins."
Spring06 - Jorgensen says, "I want to live in Brooklyn," and then makes good on the deal.
Fall06 / Winter07 - O'Keeffe whips out Kurt Uenala out of his back pocket to provide the thumppity-boom-tones. After a Bogie related chance encounter at a studio in the East Village, Paul Cox's attendance and strumographic skills become required. All the while, Stuart Bogie, lurking, toiling in the trenches, emerges as our very special guest, "the tenor saxophone player," for Pronto-related musical exploits this Winter.
Come join us for more of this kind of cultural production, won't you?
