Tru-Juice Rebel Salute

About Me

Rebel Salute is the only one-night Roots Reggae Festival in Jamaica! The show has secured the respect of lovers of the roots reggae worldwide. Like magnet, Rebel Salute has lured thousands of people to Jamaica's south coast, not traditionally famous for live music festivals. It serves up a strict vegetarian menu, complimented by a diet of conscious raps from some of reggae's finest Super Stars. Conceived in 1994 at the Fayor's Entertainment Centre in Mandeville, Rebel Salute was to receive a soggy christening as heavy rains threatened to dilute the cultural affair. But despite a waterlogged venue, the inaugural Rebel Salute failed to accomodate the hundreds of patrons who attended. A new home had to be found. This became Brook's Park in 1995, an association which was to last for five years. The show shifted to Port Kaiser in St. Elizabeth, however, Brooks Park has held a special place in the history of Rebel Salute . Tony Rebel is a product of the surrounding community and it was here that reggae fans expressed an outpouring of love for his best friend, the late Garnett Silk at a tribute to him in 1995. Today, southern Jamaica has embraced Rebel Salute as its own. An attendance level of over 30.000 patrons at the Port Kaiser venue for the annual staging is proof that Rebel Salute has taken root in Jamaica. Hailed today as a spiritual renaissance, Rebel Salute has become the bedrock for the exposure and celebration of Jamaica's roots music. The showcase has therefore become a very proud process of reclaiming the moral high ground, once occupied by Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. The cultural orientation of the festival compels Tony Rebel to bill artistes whose work reflect social responsibility and celebrates lyrical integrity, black awareness and a healthy lifestyle. Rebel Salute 's illustrious fourteen years, and its distinct mark on the Jamaican entertainment scene has been accomplished through Tony Rebel's advocacy of a strict policy. This includes an insistence that profanity must not have a place on the Rebel Salute stage, prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages, hard drugs and all forms of meat, with the exception of fish. This policy does not prevent people from attending the show each year, as droves of fans travel from all over the world to St. Elizabeth for Rebel Salute . After fourteen years, Rebel Salute has blossomed into a cultural institution. It provides a medium for enlightened and inspired expressions in music and serves as a conduit for the voices of emerging cultural artistes. The 'Rising Star' segment of the show has become a literal launching pad for many entertainers. Today, roots reggae-oriented artistes such as Jah Mason, Abijah and Queen Ifrica, began their performing careers as a critical part of this segment. The home-coming of Reggae Ambassador, Jimmy Cliff at Tru-Juice Rebel Salute 2005 was yet another pivotal moment in the history of the show! Amidst the waving of thousands of flags, Jimmy Cliff magically transformed the crowd in a hypnotic trance. This has been the amazing story of the Tony Rebel promoted Rebel Salute for the last decade. Standing tall as pioneering roots festival offering such an exceptional blend of performances in an atmosphere of love and togetherness, Rebel Salute is unquestionably a cultural masterpiece! The 15th staging of Tru-Juice Rebel Salute will not just be a Roots Reggae concert, but a Reggae Conscious Party! Come out for the Biggest Reggae Party of the Year, and celebrate Life! Fulljoy International and local Top Reggae Ambassadors performing their various hits!
