Has it ever been greater to be a Florida Gator???
First, Billy Donovan and the boys bring the University of Florida its first NCAA men's basketball national championship in April 2006! Then, in the same calendar year, Urban Meyer and the football team match that accomplishment by winning the second football national championship in the history of the school!
Incredibly, the championships roll on in April 2007 as Donovan and the Gator boys completed the basketball repeat, giving the University of Florida the unprecedented Trifecta! Triple Crown! Title Sandwich! and cementing the basketball team's legacy as one of the greatest to ever play college basketball!
The University of Florida cemented its place in NCAA history forever with the unprecedented feat of dual national championships in BOTH of the major sports in one calendar year, followed closely by the next unprecedented feat of winning BOTH championships in the same school semester! The University of Florida is now officially, Titletown USA.
The accomplishments don't end there, however. Let's not forget about the Gator baseball team, women's basketball team, volleyball, tennis, soccer, swimming, gymnastics,...! Championships are not the exception, but the rule at the University of Florida's elite athletic program.
At the same time, the University of Florida continues to set the standards of educational excellence as one of the nation's top academic institutions. UF currently ranks second among all universities in Kiplinger's magazine "Top 100 Public Colleges" (2007) and also ranked the top value amongst all the public flagship universities by USA Today (2006). Florida also currently ranks second among all institutions in the number of National Merit Scholar students enrolled, behind only Harvard University.
As the third largest university in the nation (over 50,000 students as of Fall 2006), the University of Florida represents one of the largest alumni bases in the country. Go Gator Nation was founded on the principles of serving this community. We are for Gators, by Gators, and all about our great Gator Nation.
