Equissance, Inc.

The Knowledge, Practice, Theory and Psychology of Training.

About Me

Excellent manners are only the beginning of the progressive training syllabus with Equissance, Inc. There is a strong emphasis on correct basics and reducing the frustration and stress that can sometimes accompany riding. Encouraging the horse to maintain a vitality for life is always a top priority.
Education does not terminate with the training of the horse alone. It is of utmost importance to bring the rider along with the horse so that both may grow together and form a harmonious relationship.
I have had the pleasant experience of working with numerous horses over the years. My continued education on the subject combined with my genuine love for horses encourages me to see my work as more of a hobby than a job. This is because I truly enjoy working with horses and the people who own and love them.
It is my personal goal to pass along the experience, understanding and knowledge to enable horses and riders to reach their potential. I firmly believe you and your horse deserve it.
"The psychological dimension is all too often ignored or neglected, although it is every bit as important as the physical one. As classical horsemen, we study the mind and the language of the horse, in order to learn to understand and to communicate with each individual of the species." -Unknown
"A horse 'held in shape' by his rider is only posturing in a seemingly correct form, usually for the benefit of inexperienced observers." - Charles de Kunffy
"Dressage is a precision sport. The more you learn, the less you really know" -Libby Mc Mullen "
Please note: With simple text, I cannot tell you how to teach your horse to bow. It is actually quite simple, however it requires a great feel for timing and other elements that cannot be shown or expressed with the written word. When it comes to carriage driving as well, remember it is dangerous and you must have professional help for the first few horses you train to drive. It is not at all like riding. If you have other questions though, I am happy to help when time does not restrict it.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Dressage Riders, Equestrians and horse owners.

Music:

Almost everything! Whatever sounds good. Music courses through my veins. From Techno to Classical to Alternative and most areas in between. Lately Fiona Apple has been in my truck for quite a while.

Books:

Well Authors: Anything by Sylvia Loch, Alois Podhajsky, William Cavendish Newcastle, Aldous Huxley, Lewis Caroll, Nuno Oliveira, Edgar Allen Poe (yes, he wrote stories), Ivan Pavlov, Xenophon, Vladimir Nabukov and such.

Heroes:

All of the great riding masters. Those who have a TRUE understanding of equine psychology and/or how the equine mind works. Those who treat their horses fairly. Know when to walk away. Never allowing their temper or emotions to guide their actions toward horses. Those who are not willing to be unjust to meet a goal. Those who do not use questionable methods to speed training along, or pursue such means for lack of proper education. My heroes include those who do not use gadgets, those who school in a proper manner due to understanding. Those who reward even small efforts made by the horse and can allow the horse personal expression.
