Excerpts from the Diary of Solomon Wise*I am Solomon Wise. I was born in 1815 in New Jersey. I met and married my wife in 1837 and used her money to buy the Spread Eagle Tavern. It wasn't much of a place, hardly any trade, so I got a good deal on it. On my way home a Gypsy girl named Jasmine just dropped out of the sky to say how-do. We hooked up and she helped bring in the boys with her dancing and performing at the tavern. I decided it needed more livening up so I went off to Pottsville, Pennsylvania and established a business relationship with Yuengling. While testing out his brew at the local watering hole I was enthralled with a singer named Mary who kept the bawdy crowd entertained, happy and buying all the brew they could handle. I decided right then and there I needed her in my tavern along with the beer and Jasmine. I made a proposition to her. If she would come and work for me in Trenton, I would pay her 10% of the proceeds from the beer sales that she solicited. Since I would be marking the beer up 60% above cost, I thought this would be a good deal. Besides, she was a pretty one with a beautiful voice and I had hopes that maybe there would be something more. Then Jasmine up and left town. I don't know why. I thought we were more then friends...I had another great idea. Perhaps if I added a new dancer, it would bring even bigger crowds into my tavern. I needed something unique. I had learned of the availability of black belly dancers for sale in Morocco. Since slavery was outlawed there, I would have to go myself and bring one back as a servant. That I did and we called her Naoimi...Naoimi was Dinka. She had been captured by slavers in Sudan Africa. They took her to Morocco and taught her how to perform as a seductive belly dancer. She had already learned the English language quite well before I came to acquire her. This girl was a total knock-out. I knew that I would get my money's worth from her one way or t'other...*Solomon Wise is a fictional character from the series NAOIMI SITTING HAWKS WOMAN.
