Vox Populi exists since summer of 1994. We’ve been playing actively with little breaks for whole eleven years. The band’s musical orientation is punk and hardcore. We first started as a cover band, playing hits of old and well known hardcore/punk bands, and soon after that we started making our own songs, that we play today. Surely, sometimes we play a couple of cover songs here and then, for our own pleasure and for the audience and for some nostalgic reasons. Our lyrics are pretty active and they are about everyday problems that surround us (anti-everything-we-do-not-like-about-the-society-around-us) .
In past ten years, many members went trough this band and many of them now play in other famous domestic bands of same or similar genre: SMF, Hitman, Saht, On The Run, Concrete Worms, Krvavi Protokol, Obdukcija, Azazel, Lee Oswald, Zakon Jaceg…
The band has lots of demo, live and video recordings. So far, we’ve published only one CD and tape issue, called “Ne Mozes Svima Udovoljiti†(“You Can’t Please Everybodyâ€). That was made as a “house production†material and it took two days. It contains some demo and live stuff and basically it represents the retrospective of band’s first eight years of work. Our debut album made it out in the beginning of 2002 as a self-published material, which is the part of an old tradition of domestic punk bands. The album contains a video for the song called “Nostalgicna Pesma†(“The Nostalgic Songâ€), which had certain success on charts of some local TV stations. Some of the songs also went pretty well on radio charts…

The second album should be coming out soon. All song are done and recorded, very much high-quality, and all we need now is a reliable record label company. In meantime, in 2004, we’ve issued a live CD called “Live and Bloody Loud EPâ€. It’s a good quality live recording from 2003, recorded as a short version of maxi-single (contains 7 songs), as an announcement for the next album. That also went out as a self-published material.
In these past eleven years, the band was pretty active concerning live performances. We’ve been playing a lot in Belgrade and Serbia, abroad, and lots of group and festival performances as well. As for domestic bands, we played with: KBO!, Saht, Doghouse, Trula Koalicija, Hitman, Unision, Speedball, Potres, Antifriz… it never ends. As for foreign bands, we played as support for GBH, UK Subs, Anti Nowhere League, Red Alert, One Way System, Peter And The Test Tube Babies, Motus, Hladno Pivo, D.R.I., Flatpig…
We played twice in Hungary, as a part Hungarian punk festivals. We were invited to perform in Great Britain, at the famous punk festival called “Holidays In The Sun†in 2003. We were included in the program, but unfortunately, because of visa-related problems, we didn’t go there. The invitation is still on. I would also like to mention our performance in “Monte Paradiso†festival in Pula (Croatia) in 2004, as well as the performance in Kosovska Mitrovica (at Joe’s) in October of 2004.

Since we haven’t found an adequate record label company until May/June 2005, we’ve once more decided (probably not for the last time) to issue a new mini album (containing 8 songs) called “A Pyre Of Our Idealsâ€, also as a part of our own self-publishing record label. The album went out as a limited edition of 200 CDs with a 7†cover. In summer of 2005 we organized a promotion concert for the CD that included our brothers in arms, Concrete Worms, as guests.
At that time we shot a video for the song “Isto kao pre†(“Same As Beforeâ€). That video was added as a bonus material on the CD. The video went pretty well on some TV stations and some songs were very well accepted on the famous Belgrade radio station Belgrade 202, were we even made it to the number one spot of the charts a couple of times.

During the summer and fall we are playing in Belgrade and wider. That includes the EXIT festival (such a great concert, with rain and crazy atmosphere). In November we play as support for living punk legends- The Exploited. The audience waited 20 years for their performance, but sadly, it was interrupted by a tear gas incident. They promised us they will come again. And we are still waiting for that promise to come true.
The curiosity is that we managed to print 1500 copies of “A Pyre Of Our Ideals†CD and to give away 1200 for free to anyone who had the ticket for The Exploited concert. The only difference was that this time the cover was smaller size. The rest was quickly given away to our friends all over the world, so we needed to print another few hundred copies very soon.
After that performance, some things in the band come to surface. In the beginning of 2006, a new bassist joins the line-up, and soon after him, a new drummer as well. As the new line-up is playing up, our guitarist is getting ready to become a father, and therefore a new guitarist joins the band that spring. Because of that, the list of bands our members play in has spread to Sto Mu Gromova, Neuroza and Spitback. Very soon after that, Vox Populi is having an prodigy, and because of that we sometimes perform with one guitar and sometimes with two guitars, depending on our proud father’s free time.
The year 2006 was so far the most successful year in band’s history. We play all over Serbia, we travel like never before and we also have a crew of true fans all over the country. They follow us on every show- BIG CHEERS to them as well as to punk crews from Zajecar, Bor, Majdanpek, Cacak, Velika Plana, Pancevo, Subotica, Kragujevac, Gornji Milanovac…! Each of these concerts went great with an incredible atmosphere. The bend also got another invitation to perform at the Wasted festival, and this time we finally succeeded in going there, along with legends of Serbian punk scene, Saht, although again in a little bit changed line-up, because of visa issues, which resulted in us and Saht having the same drummer and the same guitarist… what more can you say?
The performance at the Wasted festival goes very well noticed. The audience was very interested in seeing both bands and comments were more than great… lots of e-mails of support coming in from all over the world. After that, the band continues with concert activities through the rest of the year, playing every place possible. Along with that we are making new songs which we play on our shows. We are getting some good reactions for those songs as well.
We started this year working on the material for the new album. The band has changed its sound a little bit, but has still kept its recognizable stile of uncompromised punk fighters.
On 10th of February, after nine long years, we have once more played as support for our friends, the famous English punk band GBH. Our performance went more than great, with excellent atmosphere, pogo and sing along from first to the last song. About GBH, there’s not much to talk about- total madness, Colin and the team kicked ass!
