Although offically incorporated as a city in 1879, it was founded by Christian Clemens in 1795. Clemens and his friend, John Brooks, built a distillery, which helped settle the area. Brooks and Clemens platted the land, and the town was named after Clemens in 1818. It received a post office in 1821.
Located less than 20 miles north of Detroit. Home to several bars and clubs including:Hayloft Liquor Stand, Johnny G's, McSorley's, Orleans, Buffalo Wild Wings, Post Bar, Fritz's, Pub 1281(*Luxe* Harmony, of Myspace has informed me the Pub geographical location and that its part of Clinton Twp. Oh well) the Traffic Light....Among many, many others.
