If it ain't THICK, it ain't RIGHT!

About Me

I started off playing drums at the age of 12 in school bands and concerts. Went to music college in Leicester (Access to Music course) at 16 and studied there for 2 years, picking up the Bass guitar as second study instrument. The bass tutor there (GARY RACKHAM-Awesome player!) ( www.myspace.com/gazrackhammusic) was a massive influence on me and I couldn't put the instrument down!! Towards the end of the course (summer 1998) I started giging in covers bands and started travelling all over the country, mainly playing drums and dying to play bass!! I eventually started giging on bass in 1999 and have done ever since. For the past 6 years I have played in many bands, mainly funk and soul bands and have done countless gigs. In 2001 I started playing in a great funk band called "THE FUNKY WAY" which was mainly based in Nottingham covering Earth Wind and Fire, Chic, etc. This band had drums, bass, guitar, two keyoards, a brass section, backing vocalists and a percussionist. I was driving this band from the kit for around 4 years, great fun and all great players!! The front man in this band was a huge influence on me, who is a great keyboard player and vocalist (OWEN ROWE) and he is the main reason for me now being heavily into gospel and also why I now play keys!! I have played keyoards seriously for around 4 years, playing in soul and funk bands with a huge gospel influence. I still sit with headphones on for hours trying to work out tracks by the main gospel artists I listen to (sometimes successful, sometimes not!). I have been very lucky to be surrounded by good players over the years, all of who have influenced me some how, especially David Francis who is a fantastic gospel keyoard player!! At present I play with some excellent outfits, mainly "URBAN INTRO" who I do most of my work with. These guys are all great players and I love giging with them. Ladies, you must see our front man SIMON 'DEL MONTE'!!(www.urban-intro.com). I also feel lucky to be asked to dep in "CARL STANLEY'S FUNKY FAMILY" (www.myspace.com/funkycyberjunky). Carl is one of the finest sax players I've ever heard and uses some of the countries top session players! I am also very lucky to be playing with ALEX WILSON, one of the finest jazz and salsa players EVER!! (www.myspace.com/alexwilsonpiano). At presesnt I also teach Bass and Keyboards on the Access to Music course in Leicester, with a great team of tutors and students! So, I continue to play as best I can, trying to pass on any experience to the guys I teach, and continue to play as much as possible with as many good players as possible!!!
