"Berg resides in New York but is originally from Greenville, making this release one of the finest folk-rock albums ever made by an Upstate musician. Only 22 years old, Berg sounds like a sage with a deep-throated vocal style that at various turns recalls Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Robyn Hitchcock. Hardly a typical singer-songwriter release, "Songs For Madame X" is full of lush musical arrangements and diverse instrumentation that makes it clear that Berg is a serious artist with unlimited potential."

Aaron Berg was born in Greenville, South Carolina in 1984 and began his musical sojourn as an upright bass player for a variety of jazz, folk, and blues groups. At eighteen, he moved to New York City to attend the school but left less than two years later disillusioned and eager to reconnect to his Southern roots. In 2004, he played at the Windgap Folk Festival with Peter Rowan [Bill Monroe (1963-1967), Old and In The Way]. Other sidemen in the band included Chris Hillman [The Byrds, Flying Burrito Bros.], Herb Pedersen [Emmylou Harris, Earl Scruggs, Gordon Lightfoot], and Richard Greene [Bill Monroe]. In early 2005 Aaron began playing guitar and singing originally as a late night past-time with several friends who shared an apartment on West 4th Street in Greenwich Village. Within months a backing band had been formed. "Too Soon To Tell" and "A Woman In My House" were recorded live by the band at an early demo session during that period.
Berg's backing band, The Heavy Love, is a melodic rock and roll ramble of hypnotic electric density, and grainy late night guitars. Plugged in Berg's poetry is refracted by the collision of an ambient wrecking ball with a lucid foundation in American folk reaching as far back as Woody Guthrie and John Lee Hooker. Across the song's gritty surface comes a mixture of distorted chromatic lyricism, reverberant country steel, and a thick melodic jangle of Moog and Nord synthesizers, tape delays, acoustic piano, and Fender Rhodes.
