Evan Ray Deehan & Jemima Surrender

About Me

JEMIMA SURRENDER is the project band featuring the music of Evan Ray Deehan. The band's name, JEMIMA SURRENDER, comes from a song written by Levon Helm (vocalist, drummer, mandolin and guitar player) of THE BAND, and was released on THE BAND's second album in 1969. Other than Evan Deehan, the band members of JEMIMA SURRENDER are a revolving cast of musicians and friends, as it is more a studio project group than a public performance group. All musicians are credited for each song they've contributed to. Evan's musical influences go back to his early childhood in Memphis, Tennessee, and range vastly from the unique sounds of America's south, to as far back in music history as to include the great Baroque musician/composers from the 17th & 18th centuries. Although Evan considers himself to be more a songwriter (or "songslinger" as he likes to call it) than a musician/performer, Evan's instruments include the organ, trumpet, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, banjo, drums, bass and keyboard. Since 1982, Evan has performed regularly with a wide range of bands throughout Ohio, and has been a regular guest musician with dozens of bands from Memphis to New York City, and Ireland.
