Mr. Marzipan

Ridicule is nothing to be scared of!

About Me

I love music, music that excites me, that makes me sad, nostalgic, euphoric, happy, and all those feelings inbetween. I don't like music snobs, I'll always prefer Sinitta over rubbish like Coldplay, or the brilliant lyrics of Paul Draper and Karl Blake over Radiohead. I want my music full of passion.

My Interests

Beau Brummel - old and new romantics - exquisite food - Danny Saville's smirk - sunbeams on the water - Shakespeare's sonnets - films and philosophy - 70s & 80s Dutch girlgroups - sushi - moonlight - literature and ice cream - early issues of The Face - nostalgia - Grace Jones' style - Guy Garvey's beard - cats - graphic novels - Disco, Paradise Garage, Northern Soul, Deep Soul and anything on Salsoul...

I'd like to meet:

You.
Who I don't want to meet:
Racists, homophobes, mysoginists, fascists, people who'll "only have a little salad" for lunch, or like to listen to Phil Collins or Nickelback.

Ten all-time favourite songs:
01. Scarlet Fantastic: No Memory (Extra Sensory Mix)
Maggie's sultry voice and lyrics about freedom and anarchy make this the best pop song ever recorded. Starchildren of the world unite!

02. Shock Headed Peters: I, Bloodbrother Be
Empowering lyrics and one of the most important records ever made (and it had some fantastic B-sides, too. Plus "Miserable Worm" and "Kissing Of Gods" and...).

03. S-Express: Hey Music Lover
This is sheer joy. Can there be a song more uplifting than this? I dare you to resist Eric & Billie Ray Martin's plea to take you higher.

04. Arcadia: Election Day
Two words: Grace Jones. Simon Le Bon's greatest moment.

05. Prince: She's Always In My Hair
Total Bliss. He used to record the most amazing B-sides in the mid-80s.

06. Rachel Stevens: Some Girls (Richard X Extended)
Richard X made Rachel sing this ode to oral sex. This is perfect pop. And the champagne makes it taste so much better better.

07. The Associates: Schampout (Extended Version)
Otherworldly brilliance.

08. Propaganda: P-Machinery
Power - Force - Motion - Drive

09. Curtis Mayfield: You're So Good To Me
Probably the best male singer ever. This song makes you want to fall in love and forget about all its dangers...

10. Mansun: Legacy
... and this one makes you want to kill yourself, because "nobody cares when you're gone" and "all relationships are emptying and temporary".
